Not just the shape, the cybertruck is a gimmick machine. The most important numbers for a truck are towing and payload, after that it's fuel economy/range. I don't care if it has bulletproof glass, a built in tonneau cover that can be walked on; How about outward visibility from inside the cabin? what is the UI in the cabin like? Probably minimalist and touch screen for everything like the other Teslas.

On paper the cybertruck looks to be the better vehicle, but in reality? Different for the sake of being different isn't a good move.

As a non truck person the Cybertruck has some things going for it like it can seat 6 people, the covered bed, air suspension, telescoping tail bed, price, range and performance. This is going to be fun to watch when both trucks go on sale . For truck people payload and towing are higher on the Cybertruck.

The Ford F150 is the most popular vehicle sold in the United States. And yeah, it is a truck for truck people. What do you think Ford does with their F150? Did you think they were going for some radical deal? Nah, never. They are making an electric truck for their "truck people" as you call them. And this isn't the Tesla thread. F150 buyers are most numerous buyers in the United States so if they choose to go electric, it will be with Ford, and they don't want a Robocop truck like the Cybertruck. They still want their beloved F150.



I've got some minor issues with some stupid ass truck buyers/people ragging on my truck but Ford did well here (although way too expensive for me). They didn't radically alter their winning formula and best sales model in the US. They fared quite well to not reinvent the wheel with styling, etc. This is one of the first EV's I've seen where a manu did a very nice transition to an electric drivetrain. The fact that it looks just like a F150 for the most part is the point. They know the look at me crowd is going to go buy a vehicle from Elon Musk. And since it has IRS, it's probably going to handle better than other body on frame trucks in class. It has a lot of storage too, due to the lack of an engine, another big +. And they certainly did it right with the payload and towing. I'm certainly not a potential buyer, just too expensive for me but they seem to even be addressing people who want a DD truck with a bed and some towing capability by releasing an el cheapo model at 42k. They know that the "truck people" are going to buy Lariat or Platinum models loaded to the hilt while also addressing the working man with a base model. I could see a buyer like Sid picking up the base for function/need. While others like godfather going all out for an upper trim model. Economies of scale are not there so the pricing is not surprising. It will take time.

20k reservations doesn't sound great for how many truck customers they have and how many they sell "we don't know what customers are going to choose" . My father in law is a hardcore Ford truck guy and only owned Ford all his life; he said that the truck its nice but he will never buy an electric truck at 300 miles of range it doesn't meet his needs. What is the Ford truck demographics? 55+?

He retired recently so they are traveling all over the place. He used to be a trucker and he had a trucking company and he hates flying. The guy drives a lot for no reason. They have a trailer that they take places from time to time also. He had F250 Diesel that he recently replaced with F350 gasoline and he is regretting his decision he says that it doesn't pull as hard. He is a hardcore Ford guy from Michigan, all their cars always have been Ford's and all them bought at the same dealership .

Thinking about this thing and towing: I think most don't long haul tow with an F150. We step up to the F250 or up. Given this is the F150 counterpart I think it fits nicely.

The question that has yet to be answered: Will there be F250/F350 Lightnings?

It's to 50K now, and that's pretty good considering they also offer options for a Diesel, V8, Hybrid and V6 Turbo. Sure it comes with cloth seats, mind you high quality cloth seats which will probably hold up better than the Vegan leather. If 300 miles isn't enough then I guess the Cybertruck is also doomed unless you are getting the Tri-motor.

These will be ready to order by Fall and deliveries start Spring 2022. The biggest benefit of getting the F-150 over the Cybertruck is safety. Those CT will end up being the most vandalized vehicle in America because "it's bulletproof"

Actually pretty good offering. 230/300 mile offerings, up to 10k towing, DC fast charge. The frunk is pretty awesome. The final pricing/configurations will determine its success. I'm surprised that it's AWD only. I would have expected a RWD version for fleets.

honestly, I have to think the endless burnouts that would be possible with an EV truck that is only RWD. NO weight over the back and 100% of the torque at 0 rpm. I think AWD is probably to keep lawsuits down.

This is a great truck for a lot of people. It's not going to be for everyone, especially those that put crazy miles on their trucks.

Really applaud Ford for not trying to re-write the pickup truck formula here. These sorts of designs that don't depart too far from what we already know and love are going to be successful in bringing in buyers who aren't just in it for the pat on the back for going ev.

I think it's a start will be interesting to watch how the adoption rate is.

I'd like to see more commercial vehicles go BEV, PHEV or hydrogen. Dump trucks, delivery trucks, mail trucks, tractor trailers, etc, etc. Can't stand getting behind one of those on my bike belching black smoke.

I know it's happening just wish that segment would happen faster. They are much more controlled and I feel the recharging/refilling logistics could be handled better than the average joe consumer.

One of the biggest things I heard was all existing F150 accessories (aftermarket included) will fit this truck. Think about the huge Work Box industry. They will be ready to go day one, and now they can offer powered products to the line up.

Wouldn't that be fun though. But it's not like they can't limit output through software to manage burnouts. The weight distribution is a little different as there's less over the front (no engine/trans) and more distributed low and spread out front to rear. Also a little less up front as there would be no front motor.

Waiting for the pricing config to launch before deciding if it's the right time for me to switch. $75k would be my max assuming EV tax rebate is still around. Otherwise, I'll wait a year or two and hope the used EV truck market offers them for much less. I'm ready to ditch gas for EV. Just need something that meets my needs and wants within my price range.

Batteries are between the frame rails, motors front and rear; I wouldn't be surprised to see a near 50:50 weight distribution.

You are a market maven dude. Don't do it. Wait. Timmy will go trade in his Platinum ICE F150 because this is the new shiny thing. "FIRST MF'ers!" Not thinking about charging it, etc. Not thinking that you need to purchase and install a L2 charger of some kind or it's a PITA. I had a sore A$$ myself with my EV for 45 days after I first leased it, until I got L2 and all problems were history. But my point is, you'll have buyers buy it cuz new shiny thing. Then off load it. It is extremely common with EV's. I really don't understand how people are this dumb to not going through the mental exercise of fueling it before you purchase it. But any rate they'll off load it and you'll see similar depreciation to what you see in the current EV market. Truck or not. Swoop in and buy a lightly used, CPO extended range Lariat for massive savings. 2021 is not the time to be buying a vehicle. it's a sellers market. Same goes for most of 2022. Hopefully by the end of next year reality and realistic prices start coming back to the norm. A recession is also looming on the horizon, and inflation. For the first time in my life I want interest rates to go up. A lot of things are completely out of hand.

has anyone noticed the charging... it is really slow at 32amps which is what Tesla uses; it take 19 hours to fully charge the 300 mile version and and 14 hours for the 230 mile version. You will need to step up all the way to 80amps to charge between 8-10 hours and buy a Ford Charge Station Pro. This charge times are with the SOC at 15%.

We get it Francis, it’s not a Tesla. This is there 2nd EV vehicle being launched (relatively soon behind their first). I’m sure the technology will continue to improve just like Tesla has over the years.

That’s honestly one of my biggest gripes about Tesla. I’ve ridden in and driven most models (except for Y). I’ve drive then P100D, Model 3, etc. While the P series is definitely a different experience in terms of acceleration, it just came back to feeling like a disposable appliance. Expensive and definitely industry leading technology but the vehicle itself just feels, well, janky and cheap.

I’ve driven the Mach E and I really liked the vehicle. Hell, I damn near pulled the trigger on a premium model loaded but am holding off (girlfriend likely to go that route). The Mach E is definitely quick. Not model 3 performance quick, but quick enough and fun but it also felt really put together and more like a vehicle than appliance.

I couldn’t care less about brand loyalty. A company will earn business if they have a well enough out together vehicle that fits my needs / wants and within my price. If I were to go back 5-6 years, I never imagined I’d ever own a Ford. 5-6 years later and 3 F150’s (XLT, raptor, lariat), I don’t see me leaving the brand until someone offers something that I feel is better and fits my needs / wants.

I don’t expect the first year or two of their EV’s to go without problems, I’m almost positive we will see some sort of recall or TSB’s issued. It’s how they handle them that will matter to me. The specs on the Mach E and f150 rather impress me for a first pure EV vehicle launch. Just like Tesla, I’m sure the technology will improve. What bothers me about Tesla is that while technology continues to make solid leaps for them, the overall fit and finish quality remains only slightly improved.

Tesla may vary well continue to produce the fastest EV’s along with range for sometime. However, to me, I’m less concerned with having the fastest EV or the most range so long as the range is enough and the overall quality is to what I like.

For many people, they are completely thrilled and happy with their Tesla and that’s 100% okay. It’s different strokes for different folks and people are free to choose what they like. It’s just the continual fanboi’s who think only Tesla can exist as an EV, their products are the product of God, nothing is ever wrong with them, and that other EV’s are garbage simply because it’s not Tesla. Give me a ****ing break.
