Yup. Geese claims the numbness is a choice. I disagree with him on occasion.. and this is one. EPS lacks feel because it adds a ton of rotational mass to the steering linkage, which dampen all the little vibrations that constitute road feel.
In a few years some manufacturer, like Porsche, will probably engineer a linear motor EPS rack system that will combine all the benefits of non-powered and traditional EPS steering.. and it'll trickle down to cars just in time for consumer-grade Level 5 Autonomous cars to arrive and nobody to care anymore. |
