Edit because it's still sinking in that you guys did that. Really one of the best gifts I got. Thanks to EVERYONE for coming and I hope to catch you all at the next meet.

So update. The member I bought the car from no longer returns text messages or calls. I was going to try and placate the situation with him the 'no court' way, but it seems that is no longer possible. Do I just start serving summons?

Hate to say it man, but you bought the car as is. As much as it'd be nice for him to help you out with the repair costs, he has no obligation to do so. Buying third party is risky for that very reason. No warranty, no buyer protection, no lemon laws, just as is.

I've been over the books in both states, I'm
Aware it was "as is" but there was obviously a problem with the car beforehand.. Backstory, I got it June 5th, it died June 21st, and though I specifically asked him if ANYTHING was wrong on the car, anything that needed to be done, fixed, adjusted, and he said no. On jersey books, that's enough for a case.

You bought a high mileage, modified car. Things can go from good to worse over the course of a tank of gas. You don't have a case. I know I'm coming off a bit dickish here, but I'm trying to help you avoid a big waste of time and money. Cut your losses and go from there, it'll be cheaper and easier in the long run.

I'll keep that in consideration. I'm guessing you've checked the threads, so you're aware of the model, etc. I'm just not entirely sure as to why I should give up the ENTIRE venture when the guy sold me a vehicle that actually had a problem? I find it against my nature to just lose out on 7500, and think little of it. I'm not totally sure as to what experience you've had, but I personally can't accept being taken for a ride for that amount of money and just "cutting my losses". I'm a college student. There's no way I'm sourcing another engine to the car. I mean, yeah, my decision, my purchase, but selling someone a car with preexisting issues for that kind of money just seems ludicrous to me.

I've gone through much more than I care to admit, and I did some research into your car. Truth be told, the guy you bought the car from could have been perfectly honest in saying nothing needed to be adjusted, nothing was wrong with the car, so on and so forth. When you're dealing with a high mileage car with an upgraded turbo and whatever supporting mods included, you have to accept that the car can be running great one minute and spin a bearing a couple miles down the road. That's not exactly unusual for these cars, and who knows what happened over the past 120k miles.

I know it sucks, I've dealt with much more of stuff blowing up than I'd like to have, and it is expensive to fix, but you really pulled the short straw here.

The good news is you can fix it, and there's plenty of shops in the area that are plenty skilled, knowledgeable, and reputable enough to fix it. It's not quite 7500 bucks down the drain, but you'll be lucky to drive home for any less than 4 figures.

Block I would take this advice and consider the situation a learning experience. Perhaps you can learn more about the car by rebuilding it little by little and keep costs down a little, however I recommend you source out the precision stuff assuming you have the tools and some knowledge.

You could source a junk yard motor for around 1200$ but still you said you didn't want to pay that much...

Sorry bro I dont think you have a case, I've been where you are and my cousin who's a lawyer told me if its not in writing and notarized its your word against his and as is is as is....
