Default 2013 WRX Transmission Replacement- Need advice

Here is the story folks...

I recently purchased a WRX and have a shake in the transmission once warmed up and accelerating mainly in 2nd.

Looked up the transmission and it is a JDM My04 Legacy Spec B 4.44

I've spoke with some knowledgeable subaru mechanics and one suggested switching out ring and pinion and center diff to match gearing at 3.90. He said he personally would switch it to 4.11 while in there, but there is an upcharge with rear diff swap.

Going to 3.90 would cost me $1700. Going 4.11 would cost $2300.

So my question is would you go that route or do a trans swap? Is there another JDM option that'd bolt in? The trans on there is in good working order and has a newer clutch so I'm not sure if I should just stay with it.

And no I do not want to spend $3k on a 6spd swap at the moment.

Do you have a transmission code for the transmission?

Easiest thing to do, and the cheapest, is to find a rear diff that matches your transmission.

We're talking a couple of hundred dollars for the rear diff + labor to install. Not really that hard to swap a rear diff.

Yes my code is TY757VBABB

I believe they are saying the central diff is toast since its been driven with the wrong gearing by previous owner. So with part and labor and all they are quoting $1700.

So I guess my question is can I buy a JDM tranmission for a certain year range that'll bolt on and save some money, or is that a big risk?

Contact JDM Racing Motors and tell them what you are looking for. They can help you out. Well worth it to find out what it would cost you.

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but as an example:
https://jdmracingmotors.com/en/subar..._transmission/

$800

Don't go by what you see on-line. Call them and talk to them. They have new stuff coming all the time.

Agree with the mechanic. Quite possible the center diff has been damaged.

Thank you. I believe that trans is mismarked. It shows as non-turbo jdm trans on the chart I'm finding.

I spoke with the Virginia branch and it would be $1400 shipped for a jdm for my car. That'd be a 4.11 trans and diff. I'm going to look into install costs as I don't really want to tackle this in my garage
