I'll hopefully be ere next time, I haven't been on here in a while, Timmy did you start a new thread? I'm too lazy to search on my phone.

Someone text me to remind me an I'll hopefully scoop Fernando since he's scoobyless for a bit it looks like.

No new thread yet. Still inside this one for now. Texted with EJ and Jason on Tuesday. Probably the first Tuesday that we didn't hang out. EJ = sick. The next one would technically be December 14th. I could be convinced to hang out before that.

What's up with Fernando's car? I remember he was having motor noises and had it towed back to IAG. What ended up being the issue?

I'm sure you've seen the threads about Ron from raw performance and the warnings about his cross drilled crank (if you haven't then a search yields more then ample threads) or read about Ron recently dipping out of the country to avoid customers with issues and to basically screw many many people over.

Add Fernando to the list of those who have been screwed.

As far as I know the engine is toast, sudden oil pressure loss an bearing 1 spun.

Maybe he'll chime in with more info, I haven't heard much from him lately.

This is because I have been in deep depression.
I talked to Sean (who technically built the block) and to JJ (from IAG). My conclusion is that no conclusion can be made. Too many people had a hand in putting my car together and too many little things could have caused the bearing to spin and either way Im screwed. So here my new plan crossing my fingers it all goes through as planned:
I am sadly selling the bugeye and moving on. I have my sights set on an 05 STi. The Dom3 and other parts will be swapped into the Sti and the wrx will receive all the oem sti parts as well as a freshly rebuilt block from IAG who offered to help out.
^^^ This is all in theory but its really the direction I want to go in. I will keep you all posted and hopefully will show up to the next meet in another blue subie beast

First thoughts - sorry for your loss . That really sucks dude.

Second thought - '05 STIs rock . Seriously though, from all of my wandering around on the STI board, the mid-later year '05 STIs appear to be one of the strongest ones made.

Third thought - I am a little worried for you. Swapping the Dom 3 into an STI with all of your supporting mods is just setting yourself up for yet another depression unless you have IAG pull the motor and swap in some forged pistons right away. Sorry man, but I just don't trust people to tune these things so that they run for very long periods of time on the stock motor. If you were installing a 20G ... sure. But a Dom 3 pushing 375whp, combined with our varied weather conditions and altitudes, etc. ... I just don't like your odds for a LONG-TERM solution. Short-Term - sure. I know that a LOT of people will disagree with me here and that is totally cool. But, there comes a point when you are just making enough power to push the boundary of reliability on stock hyperpathetic pistons. IMHO, a Dom 3 does that. Think about it this way: A Dom 3 flows almost 20% more than a 20G.

If you still decide to go with a stock motor STI - know that you are at least going with an STI that has arguably one of the best track records in terms of stock pistons.

Couple points of note:
1) You're going to need some side-feed injectors ... or the T1 Performance side-feed to top-feed rail conversion kit (so that you can keep the '05 STI sidefeed TGVs).
2) Have IAG immediately pull the oil pan on the '05 STI and replace the oil pickup with a Killer B Oil Pickup.

Awesome. Tim, very elequently put. I am exactly on the same page with you on everything you said. The dom will most likely still be used and I am hoping to put it on a conservative tune and run it with the thought of piston replacement in the back of my mind. By then I should have some money and a job I hope haha.
That being said, has anyone tried or heard about open source road tuning with DPS in gaithersburg? I remember the price being very reasonable and they r very cool guys but any opinions here?

I know nothing about DPS and their tuning abilities. That said, if you do end up with an OpenSource tune, I'm available to review that tune and give you honest, independent feedback. That's the cool thing about OpenSource stuff. After your tune I can easily connect a laptop, download the image, and review. I could give you feedback on that tune from a reliability point of view - and we could make changes if need be.

Awesome man thats right I forgot you do your own tuning. I had open source once before but if you are me and you dont really know what some of the values should be its a little difficult.
So my buddy Kevin is very interested in picking up the bugeye if all goes as planned. Maybe he'll chime in here in a little bit. Still keepin my fingers crossed.

Had to do with this past Tuesday. Captain, GT5, and one cool movie.
