Default Hey look I'm really confused

I'm pulling apart a phase II EJ22 and in a quest to find some sensors that are compatible with phase I cars I started running checking part numbers with USDM 1st gen Legacy parts list. Now cam sensors I know aren't going to work, but I've discovered that the crank sensor for my EJ22 and a USDM Legacy 90-94 share the same part number. I thought that they would be completely different part numbers. So what gives? Are the knock sensors the same? What about sensors in the coolant crossover pipe? It appears that when it comes to phase I vs phase II all people compare are crank, cam and TPS. What about the rest?

I even checked on my on car ('94 Legacy TS) and my flatmates car ('93 Legacy GT-S2) but it looks like over the years the cranks sensors on both cars have been replaced at some point - no part numbers on either.

I think changes and updates have been made to the crank sensors over the years but they still work the same and can be used in place of the older stuff. I have a collection of extra crank sensors and some are different colors and look slightly different then others but they all fit in place of each other and all work no matter the year of car I put them in.

i may be wrong, but im pretty sure the can and crank sensors are the same from phase I to Phase II. its the cam and crank gear that are different, thus giving the ECU a different signal.

and im almost sure that the temp sensors are the same. you could have one single 3 wire sensor, that has 2 sensors in one, one for the ECU and one for the gauge. or one 2 wire sensor for the ECU and one single sensor for the gauge.

the knock sensor may also be the same.

I'll test the cam sensor on my car and see what happens.

The very early 90-94 usdm legacy used a different crank sensor with a long lead unlike every other usdm subaru. The rest may look a little different but work the same.
