Yeah, I bought the adapters which say "These Radium Engineering adapters permit the use of any OEM or aftermarket Subaru top feed fuel rail", yeah except if your OEM hardlines push everything out of place.

So I'm doing even bigger injectors, SS lines, and rails now. Waiting on parts at the moment.

More or less!

It's back in with, new fuel lines, new fuel rails, new injectors. I just buttoned it up last night, checked fuel pressure and flashed a new tune for the bigger injectors. I did not start it, because I know better to do that on a Sunday night when I won't get to touch it until next weekend. The saga continues!

JDM EJ20 X-Y. throw out the intake and sell heads for scrap metal. you can use valves. shim cups. etc but the 4 cam sensors don't work with US stuff. use the USDM heads-intake and sensors your ECM can work with. slightly higher CR but not huge issue until you go with real boost. then you want 800 buck forged pistons, etc...

It's a V9 and nothing fits. The one piece intake is cool but it hits the AVCS solenoids. I started it and it has a massive vacuum leak, so I tore it apart again. It's been cold and I have not been working on it.

Why would that be ?
I have a ver 9 ej207 with the original one piece intake manifold and fuel rails. No issues.

Well, because my 05 has quick disconnect fuel fittings, so I could neither use my old fuel lines (would not bolt up), or the fuel lines from the one piece intake (because they are barb fittings).

So instead, I went full aftermarket fuel lines, which are beautiful and bendy, but the aftermarket fuel rails sit against the AVCS solenoids.

So now I'm thinking I need to go back to TGV deletes, or, I need spacers between the heads and the intake.

This is my nightmare. Name of thread still holds. 8 degrees out this morning, work stoppage.

Alright we got updates.

As suspected, somewhat, the awful idle was due to a vacuum leak. The intake manifold was not seated against the head. Well that won't work. New gasket, new bolts, and it runs!

Coolant leaks, power steering leaks. It doesn't make any boost? Or it tried to but it's super lean? So I unplugged the wastegate, then it made boost! But still lean so I shut her down. I'll fiddle with the tune. Anyway, we're close, finally. No AVCS yet, but no CELs on the USDM ECU, that's cool.

Here it is purring like a kitten,

FIC 750 injectors with SMY rails and Radium adapters. That was why I was having issues with fitment, but the parallel lines sure clean things up.

04 ECU that I have modified boost, target AFR, WGDC, injectors and scaling, TGV delete.

I have a 3 port Grimmspeed boost controller that I understand I need to modify the WGDC for or it will run too much boost? What seems to be happening is the ECU is not compensating, or not enough?, when I get into boost. I am over on the Romraider forums comparing maps now.

Idle is nice and quiet, no ticking or noises, no leaks (other than the ones I caused!), great oil pressure.

For your enjoyment, the trials I have had trying to get this car dialed in. This is my second GD wagon, my favorite body style, my first one broke my resolve with coolant leaks years ago and I sold it. I regretted it, so despite even worse problems with this one, I continue.

History:

2024
January: Purchase car, pay too much, smoking all the way home.
February: Replace VC seals, oil cooler seals, suspension, patch a hole in one of the rear shock towers.
March: Pay too much at a shop for, STI everything, Cobb AP, VF48, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, dyno tune, 260whp at 18 psi. Dyno pulls punish the 140k mile original engine.
April: Engine sounds like a coffee grinder at part throttle. Cut open oil filter, bearing material. Change oil, keep driving it, pressure at idle drops to 9psi.
May: Purchase used JDM EJ205, direct bolt in right? Not so much. Flash my USDM ECU with a stock map. Timing belt, water pump, all the seals.
July: Finally get around to swap, easy enough. Now this engine is smoking. Head gasket?
August: Get another replacement JDM EJ205. This one is a DBW motor from a Forester. Lots of differences, what a pain. Water neck is different, so radiator, radiator hoses, nothing lines up. Can I swap the coolant neck/crossover? No because the 10mm bolts holding it down are seized, broken.
November: Buy a V9 EJ207, swap number 3!

Pictures:
Work begins.

Classic Subaru.

More Subaru problems.

Fun while it lasted.

This is not good.

First swap attempt.

Ok that one didn't work, let's get another one.

Bad turbo! Starting a collection. I have two blown TD04s, a blown VF48, and a questionable Forester turbo (even smaller).

Engine back in, now with pretty timing covers.

More Subaru problems.

It's a V9, but I got a deal on it since it's missing a bunch of parts. I know I'll miss out on twin scroll joy, I just want to get back on the road and upgrades can come later.
