Thanks for the useful info. This is definitely on my to do list. I need to finish more important changes on the car first. I'll reference this thread when it comes time to buy parts.

Driver side:
-D84 plug
remove pin#14(Light green) and tap into pin#25
-D15 plug
pin#6(Black), cut and run a new wire and tap into pin#24(Blue with red stripe) on D84 plug

-D83
remove pin#14(Light green) and re pin to pin#25(blank spot from factory)
-D5
pin#6(Black), cut and run new wire and tap into pin#24 on D83 plug

Then the mirrors would be able to fold open and close by pressing the switch on the panel. Hope this sounds correct or hope you can chime in and help out
Hello everybody, new to the forum, glad to be on board. So straight to the point, I have a 2020 base STI. I just did this mod and followed the instructions to the letter with one exception. D5 & D15 (pin#6 [Black]) doesn't exist on my harness (on both driver and passenger). So I tapped pin#5 [Black] which is right next to the empty pin#6 [Black] slot. So if I unfold the mirrors and press down the fold button, the mirrors will fold IN, but I can still hear the motor running until an audible click is heard then the motor stops (I'm assuming it's the motor reaching it's close limit so it stops automatically). When I press the button again to release the button from it's depressed position, the mirrors doesn't fold OUT, but an audible clicking is heard from both mirrors. The mirrors never folds OUT but if they're unfolded and the button is pressed down they will fold IN.

Everything is still "loosely" wired, meaning nothing soldered. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this was a pain in the butt to do and I'm so close to the finish. Just need to install the automatic module but I can't proceed until this issue is fixed. Thank you to all that's willing to help. I greatly appreciate it.

Based on the wiring diagram I found for remote controlled mirrors I was able to identify the following wires on the mirror control harness:

See pictures in next post.

There are four unidentified wires that I believe may have been used for the power folding mirrors. When I traced these 4 unknown wires with a multimeter, they did not go to where they should go to create power folding, so I decided I needed to go the custom route.

Using a multimeter, I found out that when the JDM switch was in the unfolded mirror position: Pins 2&3 received power from Pin 1 and Pins 5&6 were grounded by Pin 7 on the D149 harness (switch harness). When the switch was depressed into the folded position: Pins 2&3 were grounded by Pin 7 and Pins 5&6 received power from Pin 1. Power folding is created by physically switching the current between the brown and gray wires for each folding mirror through the JDM switch.

With this information in addition to all the information I collected from this thread, I was able to wire up the power folding mirrors going the custom route.
Would you happen to have pictures on how you wired yours up or a write up on the process. I recently did this on my 2020 base model STI following the instruction from "qnzfinestflip"

"Driver side:
-D84 plug
remove pin#14(Light green) and tap into pin#25
-D15 plug
pin#6(Black), cut and run a new wire and tap into pin#24(Blue with red stripe) on D84 plug

-D83
remove pin#14(Light green) and re pin to pin#25(blank spot from factory)
-D5
pin#6(Black), cut and run new wire and tap into pin#24 on D83 plug"

I get the mirrors to fold in when I depress the button but I can't get them to fold out once I press the button again to release it from the pressed position. I just hear a clicking noise from the mirrors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the clicking noise continous? intermittent or the mirrors trying to fold out? You can try depressing the switch to fold out position and give the mirrors a light push to fold out, did it fold out?

So the clicking is not continuous, it's like 2 clicks and it stops. I can unfold my mirrors manually, depress the button, press again and it folds back in. It doesn't unfold on it's own. I did find, that if I switch the pin location of the brown wire to where the grey wire is, and the grey wire to where the brown wire is located, it does the opposite. While the button is depressed and the mirrors are in the folded position, it opens. Thanks in advance if you're able to help, appreciate it.

Sorry to revive this thread but was anyone with BSM (limited trim) able to get this working and if so would you be able to provide more detail on how you repinned the connectors? Or do you know if a plug and play harness was ever made

What year is your subie? It would seem the the re-pinning method only works for 2015-16 model years. Anything beyond that, good luck, I'm stuck trying to get mines to work. As for how to re-pin. I was going to post a complete write up once I get it working. But I can't get it to work. I did post pics on smyperformance if you really want to know how to re-pin. Hope that helps.

I have a 2020, you'll run into the same problem I ran into. There's a guy here who says he got his to work by going a different route. I believe it's on the 3 page of this thread. I contacted him but he never replied back. I got it to work, sort of, it has to do with the brown and grey wires. I can either get it to open or close if I switch the grey and brown wires pin location with the button depressed. But that's as far as I got. I'm not an electrician and I wish I knew where to even take it to just get it done.

Yeah i agree and from what youre saying it seems like half the switch is working with those brown/gray wires so they can either open or close but not both so theres definitely more to wire up

Do you have any pics or diagram of the d84/d83 plug with pin number

This might a complete shot in the dark since this thread is so old. But any chance you could give me some advice? I am installing these on my 2017 base, Everything works except for the fold function. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 2016 WRX Limited and I did exactly what the OP did but no folding ability. I am able to adjust the glass with the new switch but that's it. Do I have to add power wires?

I have a 2018 Type RA. I found some JDM Folding mirrors on EBay, purchased them only to receive them and they’re a 10 pin?? The 10 pin connects to the usdm 10 pin but only the mirror moving works. Folding does not.

Here is a pic of the 10 pin JDM harness I received. This is the JDM passenger(usdm driver) side mirror harness. I tried following some of the posts here but still have no clue what to do with the remaining black and grey and brown wire lol. I bought the switch and auto harness from smy. Idk what year JDM WRX comes with this 10 pin harness. And I’m sure this is a JDM mirror because it does have the folding motors inside.

Help anyone. I even bought a 2nd switch thinking that it may be a faulty switch but still no dice. I wonder if it's a door harness issue.

Default Wiring

2015/2016 Wiring Diagram:

https://imgur.com/gallery/2016-wrx-wiring-x1CLYjC

2008 Wiring Diagram:

https://imgur.com/a/2008-impreza-wrx-wiring-QIQQFL8

Conclusion:

Alright I figured out the wiring and why the other guys say to use D84/D83. If you look at the power folding mirror diagrams they haven't changed in like 12-13 years overall. The wiring harness to look at is the retraction switch section.

D83/D84 are connected across the doors which is why the individuals tell you to T tap it.

The easiest solution is the following:
1. Take pins D15 (drivers side) take pins 2/6 and T tap them in some method
2. Run a temporary wire to D5 (passenger side mirror) T tap them to the pins 2/6
3. Trigger the JDm retraction switch. (confirmation it works)
4. Take Step 2 and make it permanent. Run the wires from driver door, through the drivers side grommet, through the car to the other side and finish the T taps.

For 2018+ you'll want to obviously do the depinning process or build the wiring harness. If I get a shop to work on this. I believe this should just work.

Have you had any luck with a wiring harness? I havnt attempted this yet as I’m a total noob, but have reached out to more than one individual about producing such a harness and nobody seems to get back to me. Just reaching out seeing if you had gotten anywhere with it!

Thanks for reaching out. I did infact build and make an assembly today. However, I hit some issues with some shorted circuits and faulty things that I have to repair first.

The good news the adapters mentioned in this group worked! So now I have USDM to JDM wire conversion adapter + pigtails for side view camera, puddle lights and power folding.

That's the current state of the project. In the next few weeks I will iterate again on it. Should have all the components working. Intent is to have a full documented approach

If you follow this thread it is very similar for what's required!

An update. I have successfully built an entire PNP harness and it works for the vehicle. I can have them for sale let me know.

More to come is a fully detailed installation instructions PDF so it's not confusing for any of you to install.
