Question Wondering about the 1.8 vs. the 2.0...

Ive heard that the 1.8 is just a bored out EJ20 with other minor (maybe not so minor) modifications.

So, would the stock 2.0 piping for the turbo just bolt right onto the 1.8? Or am I just dreaming

I hope they recieve the news from you better than me... I swear I was nearly lynched . The gaskets don't lie however . I'm not sure on the headers- the old 1.8's had a single exhaust port whereas the 2.0 definitely has 2. I believe the later years of the 1.8 had dual ports... I think Josh Beach knew which ones. If you do have dual ports, the 2.0L headers should bolt right up... the 2.0 headers will fit the 2.2 and the 2.5 as well. Subaru doesn't change too much at once .

The 1.8 does have dual exhaust ports on the head, it's the 2.2L with the single exhaust ports.

So, it would work? What about the other specifics, like the Intercooler and whether it will fit, ECU problems, MAF problems, radiator size difference, engine bay differences, open vs. closed block, injectors, etc. that I dont know enough about, especially when comparing these 2 engines

Mojo we need to talk.....
You can do an Ej20 transplant (Older) into your car and use your stock ECU and sensors and TB and it will work with a few piggy backs if need be. Also you can do like Chad did with his leaving intercooling the only problem.

The "intercooling issue" is being resolved. i just need to put another layer of paint on my hoodscoop, cut a hole, drill 4 more, and mount the hoodscoop.

The "real issue" is getting more fuel so I no longer run lean at boost below 4k rpm. This should also allow me to crank the boost a few more pounds depending on the AFR.

Have you tried 2.5l injectors?

I thought about 2.5 injectors, but then I have to worry about too much fuel at lower rpm, lower the fuel pressure, then get a RRFPR to raise it again once the boost kicks in. By the time I get all that, I could have had a haltech.

Instead I bought a 4psi pressure switch so I can kick on a 5th injector (and hopefully water injection soon). The injector will be a cold start injector from a SAAB or Volvo or some sort of CIS car. If that works, I might put a 6th injector to come on at even higher boost level depending on AFR. I stole the idea from the Mopar guys, lets see if it works. They claim an extra 20-30 hp can be supported by each injector.

Another perk is with the injector before the intercooler, it will act as water injection and cool the intercooler and intake runners.

OK, so now that I gave away my next set of tricks, we'll see how it goes.
