![]() is it ok to use some no band intake or no band muffler to dyno tune my car? if i want to tune my car to cobb stage 2, do i need to buy the cobb protune? and how much they gonna change for the dyno tune? i'm sorry for my silly questions.

![]() The muffler makes no difference. The intake could be a BIG problem. If its a problem intake no amount of tuning in the world can fix a poorly designed intake with physical design problems. Bottom line is if you buy no name parts, expect no name performance and possible problems. If you can afford a WRX and you can afford to mod it, you can afford decent parts. If you can only afford generic parts, then you cant afford to mod the car to begin with. If you are just looking to save money, then save it and dont bother buying mods at all. I say this because the results are so varried, some people have great results, others have horror stories. A poorly designed cheap intake can (and has in many cases) cause you to lose the motor entirely. The muffler, like I said, that wont hurt anything. But cheap mufflers are almost always VERY loud, and their tone/volume changes dramatically over time, most people find them to not sound very good after a while.
If you want CObb stage 2, you need to buy an Accessport and flash the stage 2 map on the car, and install a downpipe. If you want a protune, you need to find a Cobb tuner in your area, and have them tune it. They will charge between the pretty much standard industry rate of $200 an hour, to as low as $200 total. An intake or muffler doesnt dyno tune the car. Putting the car on a dyno, and having it tuned, dyno tunes the car. Hopefully that clears some of it up for ya ![]() |

![]() I took my 05 STi to DG Motors and read 338WHP with a 35R kit. Its on a Dyno Dynamics, which i've heard is the lowest reading dyno around. Any idea what i would see on a Mustang? I've heard that with my numbers on a Dyno Jet would be a 18% increase and would be at 399WHP....is this true?

We do not speculate on numbers. You wanna know what kind of power it makes, run it down the 1/4 mile about 15 times and take an average of the trap speeds, then we'll see if it's serious or not. Dynos can be fenagled to read whatever they want it to read (for the most part), so we can't tell you what you would make on another dyno. |

Mustangs in general usually read the lowest. But even across the same model/brand dyno, things vary by a fairly large margin. Dynos are pretty much useless as comparative tools unless you are talking about the same dyno, in the same shop. Even though people like to fool themselves into thinking they are the same. |

![]() I haven't done a lot to my car, but I put down 217 with a boost controller going in and out of boost while on the dyno. I left the shop and played with it and smoothed out the engine. I haven't been back yet to check it again. Thats not great , but not bad. I'm going for more of the handeling than all out hp.

![]() I have 2007 WRX with 19K miles. Mods so far are:
Cobb DP (catted) and SPT 3" Catback Accessport Run of the mill Stage 2 with protune - currently 238WHP and 260wtq on 93 octain Looking for best bang for the buck to be about 350WHP or more. Or rather, I'd like to be low 13's 1/4 mile or high 12's would be nice. Before the tune I ran 14.0's all day, I know I gained a couple of tenths from the tune but haven't been back to the track. All tuning to be done at P&L Motorsports in Chicago. They have a Dynojet Dyno. Plan to do the tune next spring or summer, depending on when I would get all the parts installed. They don't tune with opensource so I'll keep the AP unless someone has a better idea. What do I need for Turbo and supporting mods? Assume FMIC will be installed, or APS TMIC. I'd also like to consider a tune with e85 along with the 93. |

This is going to take a large turbo upgrade, and honestly, you are likely going to need internals shortly thereafter. In your situation I wouldnt even consider anything smaller than a 20G and a FMIC, along with meth injection. And that power level on that dyno is good for high 11s. Its been done on lower mod levels. If you are looking for a very streetable setup that is WAY more than capable of the numbers you want TurboXS tmic Blouch TD05-18G 8cm 750cc deatschwerks injectors walbro pump Good intake (aps 65mm, aFe, something of the like) Tune for 18.5PSI on 93 octane. Add meth injection and 19.5PSI if you really want to have something great. You wont ever beat that setup for a day to day driver friendly experience. I would love to see 3 pulls, average numbers to get baseline. Reflash car and add downpipe 1 pull to heat everything back up, ignore numbers 3 pulls, average numbers to see real gains. This could be done in the timespan of an hour or so, depending on what kind of dyno it is. 2-3 hours tops on any type of dyno. Then for even more info, tune the car, then get tuned numbers. |
