I’m looking around and notice that there isn’t a hose connected there or on the throttle body under the inter cooler. I’m thinking the hose popped off and that they should have a hose connected to each other. What do you guys think?

That’s a coolant line

A lot of guys remove it never understood why no matter what climate your in what the gain is to doing it

To my recollection it’s a cold start/emissions type system

Would this be the same setup for a 2.5XT Forester 2004 , or is there any significant difference to the sizes and lengths of hose needed? I had several crumble when getting the heads off.

Great write up! Been using their hoses for years - with rare exception - I wouldn't use anything else.

Hose D and G - those I had issue with. Those are for the transport of oil vapors (PCV) and oil isn't friendly (in my experience) with those hoses. Hose D in specific sheered off - it look like someone cut it STRAIGHT at the top end of the breather of the head itself - the heat, bend + less than friendly oil vapors.

Absolutely everywhere else, no issues.

I've also run their hoses in other vehicles like both of my wife's (1 wife, 2 cars) Outbacks and my 1986 Mr2 - stellar results in all 3 vehicles!

----

I've heard of a magical coolant hose that runs UNDER the throttle body (2006 WRX in my case). Just curious if I missed something, as I cannot find it on your WRX.

Thanks!

I just installed a new radiator and am having issues with HOSE H. It is the factory hose so I plan on replacing it but the hose itself seems barely to big compared to being snug on my old radiator. HOSE I is slightly smaller (at least on my car) and seems like I need that same size on HOSE I.
Sorry if that is confusing or if I am on the wrong thread. Thanks

I believe it's also to prevent the throttle from icing up in cold. Otherwise the pressure/temperature drop after the throttle plate could form ice and a sticking throttle.

In the process of doing this right now. Was having a hell of a time following the write up and the pictures because my internet is slow as hell.

Took the liberty of creating a google doc with all the pictures in line with the text.

All credit goes to freeman.matt for the excellent original write up and pictures!

All I did was put it on the same page. Hope it helps someone out there.

Btw, it seems HPSI-Motorsports has run out of or discontinued their Subaru hose kit? Can't find it on their site anymore. I ordered mine months ago, luckily I guess...

Has anyone replaced these with non-oem hoses with success? Mine need replacing and my local subaru dealer is seriously slow.

Default Help

Hey does anyone have the pictures to this thread?? I saved this post because I have on 02 wagon that has a vacuum leak and this thread was the perfect run down on how to do the project. For whatever reason, now when I try to open the pictures and it says the server cannot be found. If anyone has the pictures or can help me out, please let me know. I know this thread is old but I figured I'd try!

Thanks,
Kyle

Best of my knowledge there is no single source diagram. When I first went to work for Subaru and would get a "box" engine/car I used the images in the FSM in the Description pages for Fuel Injection & Engine Mechanical. Also images in the Subaru parts catalog.

You can purchase a short-term subscription to STIS (to download the FSM) at https://techinfo.subaru.com/stis/#/p...e_subscription
and the parts catalog is here https://parts.subaru.com/
