Racking up mileage doing completely worthless driving, like to the doctor’s office or the grocery store. Just don’t need a performance car for that kind of driving. A regular Rolla hatch is much more suitable. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, cheaper to fuel, cheaper to insure, quite a long list. I just found 2 of them, in 6MT with 13-15k miles on the ODO. Both are around $23k to purchase. That’s a damn good deal and a perfect daily for most anyone. Not putting so much $ into a daily, you can redirect those funds to a 2nd vehicle or 3rd or whatever. Something fun, fast, that you can buy and own for 10+ years seeing as it won’t be a daily and getting incessant worthless miles put on it. Being parked out in the sun, etc. As more 6MT’s go away, don’t get left out. Later on stating I wish, I should have, blah. A low mileage used Honda Fit, Rolla hatch, with 6MT’s in them, well you can still grab those now or a used Civic, but they are drying up real fast and will be perma gone soon unless you are willing to buy one with 80k on the ODO, swap the motor for a new one eventually, etc. Every year options are going away, for good.
after having a Porsche RWD "summer car" and a winter beater, i got tired of the Porsche sitting in the garage 3-4 months out of the year while the winter daily driver sat out in the snow/rain, as well as inspections/registration/insurance, and cleaning/maintenance/repairs for two cars. that led me to Subaru and a set of snow tires that i could drive all year. (i've since abandoned Subaru as a contender after having four of them and they got progressively worse reliability-wise).

i opt for a fun AWD car as my primary vehicle because at least it didn't kill me with boredom on my daily commute. i daily drove an Evo X for 6 years with no issues while the softies on here said it was too harsh and uncomfortable to be a good daily driver

That’s smart. My lead time is usually 2 years to buy something. Perhaps more, if I need to save for a large down payment. I loathe high car payments and avoid them like the plague. The GRC is excellent. Different strokes for different folks though. I would never daily mine. But I find this is geographic dependent. I live in a major metro and traffic is literally a nightmare 24/7. You have to get out of the metro to do any real driving. That’s a 30-40 minute commute then you can go into the teens MPG and get the tires screaming. In the metro, driving anything you care about is a fools errand. The congestion + the proximity to get into a wreck. The distracted driving is so bad I avoid a wreck just about every time I drive anywhere. The highways are always jammed up and everything else is light to light. It wouldn’t be fun in a Ferrari.

I opt for an AWD fun car for year round performance driving. Summers on aftermarket wheels, and winters on the OEM’s so I can thrash it year round. I have no problem with it sitting when I’m not using it because mileage isn’t getting racked up on it so it will last 20 years. As expensive as vehicles have become, I’d rather the more expensive vehicles last a long time. My daily is electric so there is no maintenance. And since I’m not racking up commuter or DD mileage on my fun car, maintenance is minimal and certainly not costly. That goes for all my vehicles. They all have Amsoil fluids so that’s not even a concern. I send fluid samples to Blackstone Labs, get results, and worry about something else. If I were to DD something more expensive it would just be pouring money down the drain. Higher purchase price, higher insurance to cover it as a daily, depreciation, more maintenance. I save so much money dailying an efficient vehicle it frees up $ to expand the fleet. It’s pretty simple, what kind of driving I do dictates the vehicle it’s done in. When I was younger I was stupid enough with my $ to daily a STi, a S2000 before it, and it was a big waste of time and money to me. Most of the driving I was doing could be done in a Prius, a regular JDM economy hatchback, EV, etc. There is nothing exciting about light to light driving to pick up eggs, fish, and fruit, at the grocery store. I loathe commuting. I look forward to the Hal9000 coming out and I get to get in the back seat and watch a movie or series while we sit in traffic. Driving enjoyment is my rural twisties, the track, or the mountains where my land is. That’s where I put my $, performance vehicles, and driving/riding. Living in a major metro is no fun at all.

So my YouTube feed’s sent me to some S210 close up video reviews from Japan, and I gotta say, the exterior is what the current VB should’ve been from the start.
And of course I’m basically talking about the cladding. It’s piano gloss black with some effort put into the front cladding to have a nice little STI touch- instead of the current cheap plastic golf ball textured crap with 3 halfassed slits and called it a day. At least the S210 is like the actual concept car revealed years ago for this new gen which was a well received concept. But that’s where things stop. Everything else about this car, from engine/performance/transmission is a joke from Subaru and a joke to call it an S car. It’s a glorified STI catalogue parts VB that’s all it is.
