Default Tail light staying on (2004 wrx)

I just got my car back from the detailer and he noticed and showed me that the rear lights were kinda glowing. At first we thoguht this was just the sun but no and then we tried arming the alarm and turning it off. WE even tried starting up and shuttgin off the car. Tried steping on the brakes and no matter what we did it apears that the lights are glowing slightly.
I hadn't noticed this before and im hoping that its nothing

Anyone have any idea of whats going on here?

thats what I said in my edited post. But I wasnt sure if pre-06's had that switch.

So yeah if it does. Your parking light switch is on. Its on top of the steering column. Once you turn it off sit there and think about what its for

You probably didn't notice, but your front parking lights were on too. Both are operated by the switch on the steering column. People who have had their cars for many years don't even know about that switch (or forgot) so don't feel bad

I did an LED conversion on my dash cluster, and most likely I hit that button while wiggling the cluster back in. The back lights stayed on and drove me crazy. Lucky I was doing this around midnight, otherwise I would not have noticed until the next day when I find out the battery out of juice. So my solution was to find and pull off the back light fuse "second fuse from right on the first/top row" from the fuse box, which is near your left knee if you are sitting in the driver seat. Good thing the break light still works. I will hit that darn break switch on that magic steering column as soon as I get off work today.

Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!

I came out of the gym today and thought my lights were on. Checked the switch and it was off. I remembered reading about this switch and yep it was the case for me as well. What exactly is the purpose of this thing?

I would like to guess maybe use it to stay visible while parked on the road without draining the battery since the cluster n the front lights are not turned on.

^This. Due to most cities nowadays not having really much parking and everyone has to park on the streets they installed this button so at night you can leave your parking lights on so people see you car and arent as likely to hit it while its parked.

I was searching around in the Electrical forum for something else. Found this. It's literally the first sticky on the page.

This is a very common customer complaint. I get calls for this all the time.

Another weird one, if you unblock the hazard button harness, the right n left turn signals will stop working.

Default Same issue after break bleeding

I tried all the typical solutions to the turned on tail lights. since i just did lots of electrical stuff, keyless ignition etc, and the issue just appeared, i build everything back to just find the lights still on. drove me crazy today.

i just gave up for the day and read through this thread, then it just came to me, check the fuse...., it was ok. the issue was the black/brown plug connector to the break paddle, i found out because i pressed the break a few times and the tail light would stay off , but the on again. i check the plug and voilaa, it workt again. tomorrow have to reinstall all switchpanels
