Tumble Generator Valve trouble
Started my stock 06 sti this morning and had CEL light and cruise control light blinking. I pulled the error codes and came up with these errors. Is there any way to clean the TGV valve or should get a grimm speed TGV delete. I dont want to take to dealer but will if i can't fix this on my own. I had the mechanic clear the errors codes but im afraid thats just a "out of sight out of mind" fix. The errors havent returned so im not sure if it was a fluke or a bad bach of gas that triggered the errors.
Can someone help please. Thanks in advance. P2006 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1) P2007 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 2) P2012 Intake Manifold Runner Control Circuit Low (Bank 2)

If you do go with the TGV delete, you will have to retune the car, no? Figure $500 extra into the cost of the TGV delete.

Sometimes the TGV valve gets gummed up with carbon. I've been able to clean them by spraying carburetor cleaner into the vacuum hose port on the passenger side front of the intake housing the the engine at idle. Spray at a rate that doesn't kill the engine. May require two cans. This is only if the TGV motors are functioning. May have to remove one still connected to the electrical connector to see. Subaru diagnostic tool allows you to run a cycle test to confirm operation. My test is more crude. lol

I do engine brake regularly - but i also run synthetic oil so, I dunno, seems odd that they be stuck from carbon. However, my air cut valves stuck closed too. Already had to delete those codes a year or so ago.. maybe my car just doesn't get driven hard enogh to keep moisture from corroding stuff. It's a daily driver, but only about 22 miles for 5 days a week. thinking about getting some TGV delete risers or something. is there a good source for those or a 'core exchange' service someone has? |

Several people have been selling TGV deletes, just do a search and you can find them pretty quickly. |

Besides GrimmSpeed's offering, IAG has their billet CNC TGV deletes, and I know TurnInConcepts is looking at a group buy on their new composite ones. I like my billet ones, though.

kstech looks inexpensive.
My main issue is, lack of experience/confidence for this amount of disassembly/work lol! But, if the cleaner/solvent trick doesn't work, I could at least combine the TGV delete with putting the blocking plates on for my air cut valves that stuck closed last year. um, what would be the recommended way to use seafoam in a 06 WRX? |

put the sea foam through the brake booster hose.
I've used the whole can on mines before, but just don't do it all at once. |

well, no returning CEL/codes when i left for work? maybe the higher temps loosened some varnish or w'ever is intermittent just started working. Drove fine too.
Put a can of seafoam in the tank with a fill-up. I hope it cleans away w'ever is causing the problem. Kinda feel stupid for being in a panic about it. Got a coupla 'personal issues' going on and really don't need car trouble right now. No, I'm not crying right now Nancy! kinda surprised the codes didn't return - but it's a good thing! |

If you decide to go with the Grimmspeed PnP tgv deletes, PM me. I have some along with a PnP intake manifold.

used the BPV vacuum line today to introduce about 1/3 can of seafoam while idling.
But, since the valves are upstream from the injectors, I guess only oil could make them sticky? from the PCV system or the ....gulp...TURBO! (could they rust and stick like the stupid aircut valves?) |

CEL on, boost cut.
I'll scan for codes when I get home but, I strongly suspect the TGV codes again. ugh |

Have you tried removing the sensor or motor and turning them with a vise grip? (not too much pressure though!) I swear by Kreen as the only engine treatment you can buy that actually does anything.

P2006 Intake Manifold Runner Stuck Closed Control Bank 1
P2007 Intake Manifold Runner Stuck Closed Control Bank 2 P2012 Intake Manifold Runner Control Bank 2 Circuit Low Seems unlikely both sides would 'stick' . The car ran fine on the way home (full boost back on) so, I cleared the codes to see what happens. I'm hoping this is a 'glitch' similar to when it happened in 2012 - it freaked me out back then! When you google this, you find several posts around the Forums with no real resolution. Maybe the ECU polls those sensors before they settle after starting sometimes ? pshh, I have no idea ...... I may still use some cleaner in through the BPV's vacuum line but, not convinced they are sticking. Need to locate the motor and sensor wiring, like to re-seat any connectors. Wonder what ground wire those circuits might depend on - maybe re-fresh some ground connections. Last edited by 1 Lucky Texan; 06-13-2014 at 12:06 AM. |

update?
Resurrected.
Just checking in because my 05 STI just threw these codes this morning. Did your issues ever come back? Last night we had crazy humidity and from freak thunderstorms. Wonder if it caused some condensation and triggered the code. I cleared it using Torque and they have not yet returned. Guessing i should start by testing the sensors. |

should have got back here.
No, this has happened twice on my car, 2 years apart. One time may have been related to a battery getting old. The other time was a mystery. Both were 'cured' by a reset. Probably SeaFoam had no effect at all. |

Also throwing P2007
Threw P007 (‘15 WRX) just after filling up gas tank. Dealer provided me an estimate for replacing both TGVs and gaskets for $1297. Said only one “bank” was bad, but recommended replacing both. I am a noob and only moderately mechanically inclined so any simple DYI options or less expensive professional help ideas would be much appreciated.
