Not enough pictures in this thread!
This was my first exposure to Subarus. The year was 1984, and I was ten years old. We drove the family GL Wagon from Indiana to Colorado for vacation and to visit friends. The car was 2X4/4X4 and had a manual tranny. My dad really loved that car and still talks about it like it was the best car ever. He wishes he still had it. Dad used to say that if it had wings, “man, this thing could fly!” Like most red-blooded American boys, I was drawn to muscle cars (the General Lee), 4X4’s (Colt Seavers), and exotic super cars (Miami Vice). As soon as I was old enough (like 9 or 10), my dad introduced me to model cars. I assembled about a dozen 1:24 scale cars which taught me a lot about the basic components that make up a car. As I got older my interest turned to skateboards, and cars were mostly just a way to get from point A to point B. I still appreciated nice cars, but they weren’t really on my radar since affordability was an issue. In 2007 I traded in my gas-guzzling V6 supercharged ’02 Frontier Crew Cab for a used ’07 Outback (the one I have now). Over the years I have sung the praises of my subie, and eventually my parents went out and got a brand new ’10 Forester, which they absolutely love. Then in 2010 I was looking for a PS3 game to buy for my brother-in-law for Christmas. I thought that a driving game would be cool, so I picked up GT5. I was instantly hooked, and when I bought my house last year I also bought a PS3 and GT5. No other games. Just GT5. I enjoyed (and still enjoy) learning about all the makes and models and history of automobiles. With the help of GT5 and Top Gear (UK) I have become more familiar with most of the import and foreign sports cars. Prior to these influences, I was familiar with Imprezas, but not with the WRX and STI models. Now I look at all cars differently. |

My dad has been taking me to car shows since before I could walk, my brother is a master mechanic/race car driver & builder and my uncle used to race so I have been around the car culture my entire life. Watching my brother build his race cars when I was like 8y/o and helping my dad restore a 1946 Nash a few years later really solidified my interest in cars. Also having a go-kart really made me like driving a lot as well as appreciate being able to fix things when they broke.

I love how almost everyone's response starts with "my dad" or "my grandpa," guys & cars. It reminds me of that mc chris skit where you hear the hot chick say "my daddy taught me how to work on cars, my momma taught me how to f***." I wish I knew that girl...
