Default Next-gen Hyundai i20 teased ahead of Geneva unveil

https://www.hyundai.news/eu/model-ne...e-all-new-i20/

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...-unveil-415923

i20New Hyundai i20 launch in India is slated for June; will rival the Altroz, Baleno, Jazz and Glanza.

Hyundai has officially released the first teaser image of the next-gen i20. The all-new Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing multiple times in India and abroad, and, as reported by us earlier, it will see a market launch in India sometime in June this year.

The first teaser image confirms that the next-gen i20’s design will be more of an evolution than a revolution, and the overall profile of the new car remains true to the second-gen model that it replaces.

In order to make the new Hyundai i20 look sportier, the designers have given the car a bit of a sharper look at the front-end, with more cuts and creases on the bumper, similar to the recently unveiled Aura sedan. The new i20 gets the signature cascading grille with headlights that neatly merge with it, like the one seen on the latest Elantra.

On the inside, expect familiar premium quality materials, with the top variant getting a fully digital instrument cluster which was part of the test mule seen in India a few months ago.

The next-gen Hyundai i20 will also get the BlueLink connected-car tech with a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. We can also expect features like wireless charging, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, push-button start-stop, front and rear armrests, and six airbags.

Engine options on the new i20 will include a standard 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol, a new 1.5-litre diesel, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, mated to either a manual gearbox or a DCT automatic.

When launched in India, the new i20 will replace the second-gen car that has been on sale for over 5 years now. Key rivals include the recently introduced Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz , and the Toyota Glanza.

Default New 2020 Hyundai i20 leaked ahead of official debut

New 2020 Hyundai i20 leaked ahead of official debut

Hyundai's supermini will take on the Ford Fiesta and Mini hatch with a sporty stance and angular styling

Images of the next-generation Hyundai i20 supermini have appeared online ahead of its official debut at the Geneva motor show next month, showing the results of a significant styling overhaul.

The model looks to remain true to the spy shots and preview renders we've previously seen, featuring a more aggressive stance than its predecessor and a front end modelled after its smaller i10 sibling.

The latest iteration of Hyundai's corporate grille design features, flanked by a pair of angular LED headlights inspired by those on the flagship Santa Fe SUV. A prominent chrome strip running the length of the window line indicates Hyundai's intentions to move the model upmarket to compete with the Ford Fiesta and Audi A1.

Now that the heavy body disguise seen on camouflaged prototypes has been lifted, we can see that the i20's overall shape and short overhangs bear a resemblance to the larger i30.

The second-generation Hyundai i20 is a very spacious, well-kitted and keenly priced addition to the competitive supermini segment, but is ultimately let down by its weak engines

The current i20 has been on sale since 2015 in the UK, so initial customer deliveries at the end of 2020 or at the beginning of 2021 fit in with the usual six-year lifecycle for mainstream models.

Little is known about the new i20's underpinnings, but expect an extensive overhaul of the car's interior and technology to bring it into line with newer Hyundais, such as the i10 and Kona. There's also a strong possibility that some electrified powertrain variants will be brought in to help the Korean maker meet stringent EU emissions targets.

It remains to be seen if the three-door i20 Coupé will make a return in this new generation. Most manufacturers have ditched three-door variants of small cars due to the balance of demand vs complexity of production. There was also expected to be a hot i20 N this year, but that decision may have been pushed back.

Then there is the original design sketch

^^^ You mean do for the US market what Toyota doesn't have the stones to try? Would like to see them pull it off.
And yes, ditch the Nissan tail lights, they do the car no favors.

Default New Hyundai i20 Would Make For A Fun 'N' Series Hot Hatch

The new generation Hyundai i20 is ready to take on the supermini class with refined looks and technology, but what about the rumored i20 N?

It was supposed to arrive with enough grunt to challenge the likes of the small hot hatchbacks such as the VW Polo GTI, Renault Clio RS and Ford Fiesta ST. We have no idea whether Hyundai’s N division has scrapped the project, but if they didn’t, then it could look similar to XTomi’s rendering.

Slotting under the compact i30 N, the subcompact hatch was envisioned with a redesigned front bumper that houses larger side air intakes, bigger lower grille and an apron with red accents. It also wears bulkier side skirts, bigger bumper at the back and black roof and pillars that contrast the light blue paint finish covering the rest of the exterior. The wheels have been swapped with new ones and we can also see the red brake calipers with ‘N’ badging hugging the discs.

The rumored i20 N would also get a tweaked chassis for improved handling and a potent engine that would allow it to go head to head with its rivals. If we had to guess, a 1.6-liter turbo’d unit is possible, making around 200 horsepower, although some have claimed that it could push out as much as 250 HP. We wouldn’t be so sure about the latter, as it would cannibalize the larger and heavier i30 N, which comes with 246 HP in standard form. If you desire as much oomph as possible from a small hatch, then the Toyota’s GR Yaris is the one to gun for, as it gets a massive (for the class) 268 HP and all-wheel drive.

Default Hyundai Shows More Of New i20, Wants To Impress You With Its High-Tech Interior

Hyundai has released more details and pictures on its new i20 supermini and its tech-laden interior, which represents a radical departure from its predecessor.

The new subcompact from the Korean carmaker adopts the brand’s new dynamic design language, called ‘Sensuous Sportiness’, aspiring to become one of the stars of its segment that includes models like the Ford Fiesta and the Peugeot 208.

Hyundai says that its goal with the interior of the new i20 was to create a spacious, airy atmosphere that offers modern aesthetics and all the tech features available.

A key design element of the dashboard is the use of horizontal blades from door card to door card, blending with the four air vents for a modern look. The new i20 also makes use of a pair of 10.25-inch digital screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The latter comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while wireless charging and a high-end Bose audio system with eight speakers are also available.

According to Hyundai, it also features “the most comprehensive” range of active safety systems in the segment, including navigation-based active cruise control, a new generation of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with both pedestrian and cyclist detection and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist among others.

Hyundai wanted the new i20 to look more dynamic, making it lower by 24 mm, wider by 30 mm and marginally longer by 5 mm, compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase has been increased by 10mm which increased the space for rear passengers. The luggage space has also been increased by 25 liters to a total of 351 liters.

The engine range includes the 1.0-liter T-GDI petrol in two versions, with 100 PS (99 HP) or 120 PS (118 HP). This unit is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for the first time, either as an option on the 100 PS (99 HP) version or as standard on the 120 PS (118 HP) edition. Hyundai claims that the 48-volt system helps reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 3-4 percent. A six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are available with both versions of the 1.0-liter T-GDI.

The company will also offer a 1.2-liter MPi engine with 84 PS (83 HP) and a five-speed manual transmission as the base version of the new i20. As for the market launch, Hyundai’s new Fiesta and Polo challenger is scheduled to arrive in the European market this summer.
