![]() So i found a 07 wrx for sale but it says it has a 2015 sti motor swap. He says the transmission is bad. I got a 6speed on my bugeye. Is it a bad idea to buy the car with that motor in it? Will the 6speed bolt up to that engine? I was not aware of the possibility of swapping motor like that into these 02 to 07 chasis. I don't know if I'm going to run into issues other than the transmission. What do you guys think? The guy wants 6k for the car. It looks pretty clean but like i said im unsure because it has that swap in it. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. In other words what should i be aware of with this car? Thanks guys!

![]() 2015 sti still had an EJ engine in it (unlike the 2015 wrx with the FA20).
Personally I would consider the 15 sti engine swap a bonus. Your transmission would bolt up to the engine. I guess you still have to eyeball the engine bay to look at the quality of the work, would be curious to know how they dealt with the the exhaust AVCS on the ej257, is it just not hooked up and how was it blocked off? Maybe the seller can offer details or receipts. |

![]() Only difference I can think of is the 07 wrx ecu is for single avcs while the 15 STi will have dual avcs. You want to find out how that is been handled.
Your 6 speed transmission will bolt on to that 15 STi motor, it is an ej257 after all. |

![]() when i put a 2015 sti in my 11 wrx i just left all the sensor unplugged for the exhaust avcs and cam sensor. you can go a step further and put wrx exhaust cams and cam gears in it as well. i have had no problems at all with my setup, you just have to leave the avcs solenoid in so your exhaust cams still gets oil.

![]() You don't know if you are afoot or horseback. This is a hard pass. You are looking at a swapped car (which is ALWAYS a partial birth abortion) and then looking ahead to putting a 6 speed from a current car into a future car. You are sixteen steps down the road. Every engine and every trans will fit into every Subaru firstly. Secondly, all swaps...engine or trans require research that YOU have to do. There's no copy/paste answer and we have an entire Conversions Forum forum here for this.
You are buying a neverending project. If you are OK with this, buy the damn thing and leave us alone. Return when you have specific questions. Holistically, you should NOT buy they damn thing as its broken now and you are scheming as to how to take your good Subaru and cobrifabbing it into this new one to create a FrankenSubaru that will be a greater version of each of the two cars. That will likely not happen. |

![]() I love the idea of an STi swapped WRX (I'd like to do it to mine some day)
But I agree this is something to approach carefully. It's hard to know what kind of shape the car is in if you can't get the engine to someone who can give you some solid feedback. Not saying don't go... because this feels like a "full send" moment to me... but be cautious And also, it's been a few months. Did you pull this trigger or pass? |
