![]() Thought some folks here might be interested to know that over the weekend an insider has confirmed a manual will be available for the 2023(2022 calendar year) Supra 3.0 liter model.
Pretty big news for manual RWD sports car fans who still want to row their gears. No word yet on pricing but it's pretty much confirmed.

![]() Thanks. I've been casually following the leaks on it, but hadn't followed-up in a couple of weeks. This will be a hot seller, even with ADM. Do we think it'll be cheaper than the automatic variant?
Hopefully they take this opportunity to update the interior a little too. |

ADM will be interesting. Covid aside, the Supra is slated to end as a 2026 model year car so that means it's midcycle. But this whole supply chain issue is likely going to continue and a manual will likely result in more interest on the Supra and dealers are greedy.... So... I am not sure about an interior refresh for 2022 MY they let you select red interior option now (previous version this was only offered on launch/special edition). I would hope Android Auto support, but otherwise the car is loaded with tech and most of it standard. They could update to a newer version of BMW iDrive but I dunno, seems like the interior to me will stay the same till the end. Maybe a flat bottom wheel or something minor. |

![]() That settles that.
My only gripe was lack of manual. |

These auto mfr’s are so effed up with this. They put all this ADAS bull**** on the vehicle that I want nothing to do with but like say Subaru, can’t put wireless in the thing? Geez I had this functionality in 2019 man. 2022 is just a couple of days away. It’s absolutely pathetic. Then at the same got damn time say using Subaru for example again, bricks the dash and interior with a ginormous iPad where you can’t go aftermarket at all. So basically you can do this big ass screen in the vehicle, that integrates just about everything, all in one, but wireless connectivity for your phone is a Mars trip for you? ![]() Yesterday I watched as a Lexus ran through an intersection, head down looking at a phone. By the time the dummy realized what was going on, he smashes the brakes, the tires smoke, all 4 of them, and he missed a City Fire Department vehicle by inches. I saw it coming and laid on the horn hard, so maybe I helped wake the idiot up. All I could think is if wireless phone connectivity was in all these damn vehicles it “might” alleviate some of these crackheads continuing to do this ****. I want people in jail. Let’s fill them up. |

![]() I am an Apple guy and wireless Carplay works great in the Supra for me, but I don't understand the lack of support for wireless Android Auto (I know there are workarounds that seem to work).
But yeah it's 2022 (well almost).. Silly that vehicles don't have wireless by now. Especially at these price points. I still get in my Wrangler (which cost as much as my Supra kinda sorta) and forget that I have to plug my iPhone in via USB to get Carplay to work... |

![]() Toyota was one of the last manufacturers to introduce android auto into their cars at all, let alone wireless.

![]() While a manual would have been my preference I'm not planning on trading in my 2021. Glad they will release one, I'll be curious as to the take rate. Miata tends to have a good manual take rate but corvette does not and this lands somewhere in the middle.

I read that the Cadillac CT5V Blackwing had a take rate of 50% for the manual. Pretty surprising given the demographic but pleased to hear. ![]() |

![]() with fewer and fewer cars coming with manual transmissions, I think the ones that offer it are likely to have pretty high take rates... They're cattle-chuting all the manual enthusiasts into a few cars.

![]() Remember when the basic vehicle only came with a manual because people couldn't afford to spend a penny more on transportation and the automatic models would languish on lots.
Now it's a luxury and considered an enthusiast must have. WTF happened? |

Also serious answer. With todays performance cars having significantly more tq, the clutches needed are rather stiff and most don’t want to have knee replacements from heavy clutches and short life. |

![]() Subarus had cable-operated clutches for a very long time. The change in effort from a Legacy with a cable clutch and the next year's with a hydraulic clutch was negligible. It has nothing to do with effort. Hydraulics are nice because they're self adjusting. It sounds like whatever cable clutch you had was in need of adjustment.
Also, the most common miss-understanding about clutches is that the diaphragm clutch spring you're compressing when you press on the pedal becomes stiffer as the clutch material wears out. People ignorant of this always come away from a test drive of a new version of their own car talking about how much easier the clutch is now, even when they have the same part numbers. If your (OEM-style) clutch is giving you knee pain, it might be time for a new clutch. |

![]() I remember in the 80's and 90's that 3 to 5 speed automatics were garbage and provided worse fuel economy and performance compared to manual transmissions in most cases. Once DCT's came out and torque converter automatics advanced the roles reversed which is where we are today. Nothing really has changed as buyers have always gravitated to the best performance version of a sporty car that is sold.

![]() Folks love working that long clutch throw, I guess. (one of those Honda vs VW things) I do know some folks dislike the engagement point being high through a bent knee because then they're trying to work the friction zone through three joints (hip, knee, & ankle) and all the fast twitch muscles, rather than one (ankle). If it engages near the top like that I'll usually adjust the pedal down closer to the floor so that the throw is short (for the joint reason) and the engagement point remains in the middle. A lot of folks don't realize that things are adjustable and just learn preferences around what they're used to.
Motorcycles are tons of fun because almost everything is adjustable (with the right parts) to work ergonomically with the rider, so aftermarket companies cater to almost every rider. What were we talking about again? Oh, right.. melted body with toyota badging on an overweight modern/bougie BMW GT convertible chassis. |
