People have complained Subarus were ugly for years. And would have said something similar to "Aztek ugly". And, yes, much of my statement is trolling; but, really not far off the mark. Just because certain people REALLY don't like this look. Is where I was at at the first site of the Bugeye. I've just been lucky enough Subaru hasn't made anything sooooo ugly to me I wouldn't buy it.

![]() Don't feed the trolls. The WRX and Crosstrek look great. They are a huge success for Subaru and will continue to be so.

I recall the bugeye debut. It was glorious. People were excited. It was different than the GC8 but that blue commercial with the bug eye rallying, YOU KNOW THE ONE, changed the game. It was a complete paradigm shift. It was Revolutionary. People adored it. This is the ugliest thing Subaru has ever made. The B9 tribeca was better looking than this car. |

![]() If I think a car is outright ugly, I'm not going to buy it no matter how well it drives. You'll never catch me driving a bugeye since that's the ugliest an Impreza has ever been in my eyes. Stock for stock, gun to my head, I'd take the 2022 WRX.
Mod to mod, though, all I'd need to do with the bugeye is swap the headlights with JDM ones or Morettes. 2022 WRX, however, needs a LOT more work. |

![]() Ovoid headlights were the only difference between the bugeye and the next two facelifts. Of which you owned. So per your tastes, one angle (the front), was ugly. Front side and rear are ****ed on the 2022 WRX.

![]() However you need to compute it!
However, aftermarket could easily fix the 2022 WRX. Once companies get their hands on them, we'll see "body kits" left and right. |

As for the Bugeye. I'm sure people like it. I offend people now that have owned them. We have someone at the dealer that currently owns a Bugeye Impreza and "current" body WRX(dislikes the '22 as well). I just think people ultimately didn't care in 2002 because.............USDM WRX. FINALLY |

![]() "contributing to reduced lift on the front tires and improved driving stability"
I love when engineering meets marketing BS. Marketing: "Find me an effect for the vents" Engineering: "at 130 mph, the airflow will result in an increased downforce by 12 microNewtons" Marketing: "So it works!" Engineering: "... which also happens if you add one tenth of a hundredth of ounce of windshield washer fluid..." Marketing: "So it works!" Engineering: "...and the simulations presumed mathematically impossible tires, no driver, no side-wind, a 2D infinite perfectly flat asphalt, and we neglected 89 variables whose contribution is 10 times the obtained results" Marketing: "IT WORKS" Bring on the flux capacitor and performance blinker fluid ![]() |

my brother supervises the manufacturing of these damn things and he would never consider owning a subaru from the last 8 years. its telling. ugly duckling swan songs for former buick owners. they could do so much right and they choose not to. the crosstrek looks good and drives like hot garbage above sea level. this update is going to look even more bloated like when the forester moved to SGP Last edited by blackseafleet; 11-11-2021 at 11:01 PM. |

Subaru is not the one claiming the quirkiness. That's statements from this site going back far longer than your join date. A bout models going back much further than the mid 2000s. And it's "telling" your brother wouldn't buy one? I've been to the factory. Lots of cars in the parking lot. I'd gander to say more that are not Subaru than were. Is that "telling" as well? Subaru only has 4% of the auto market. Is that "telling" as well? ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() I think they are for people who think they are off-road people, but never go off-road. That's who the target audience is. They off-road in their dreams. Reality is they sit in drive thrus everyday. But the car, the imagination that they have about it, is they are rock climbing with no rope. Driving their Crosswreck out to a desert with huge pieces of rock. Instead of climb, they make a little fire, and drink Bud Light Seltzers. ![]() |

On the other hand, most Crosstrek owners don't buy them for off-road, more for their ability to handle snow. What they don't realize, although many do discover, is just how good they are off-road. |

As an OG bugeye owner, I'd argue the bugeye styling really didn't start to trend as "classic" until the VA-chassis released. |

I remember it very well. Was itching at a Blaze Yellow being offered to me. But, 2 things kept me from ever even test driving one: 1. Bugeye(I was one of the complainers though I was thinking Corolla/Integra more than Neon.) 2. I just knew if they finally brought the WRX, then eventually they would the STi. So, I wasn't gonna waste my time. Patience is a virtue and 2 years later, I had the first STi in TN. The day I gave them my deposit(the day after the unveiling) on my sold order is the day I finally drove a WRX. Was very happy with my decision cause that was a fun drive ![]() It lived up to the hype cause what did we have before that? Nothing.......wasn't really hard. |
