Keep us all informed, I and a few others are closet AEM users but we don't get much support around here. It's good to have an open exchange of ideas out here if possible.
I'm currently running the AEM on my essentially stock car (nothing but TBE) because I'm trying to get driveability all dialed in before I mess with anything else, and the AEM base maps were not so hot to start off with. I've been swapping it in for a couple days at a time when I've got time to tune. Are you doing any tuning yourself or are you leaving it up to the tuner at your dyno? |

first of all Im glad there are a few out there with the AEM also its a very powerfull system thats been proven elsewhere in many different applications thats why I went with it.
So far I am tuning myself the aem maps are useable. Biggest thing to save you some trouble is switch to the gm boost control solenoid its very stable in my car now at 15psi even in a bleed setup. I am actually running that now with the base map modified to work with the gm solenoid. Base map is very very rich. Thats where it needs most of its tuning. I see 12:1 and richer with the base map which is not good. Last edited by snwman; 04-05-2005 at 10:24 PM. |

I was seeing like 8:1 under certain circumstances.
Got the fuel dialed in pretty well though. Have you messed with the timing map much? I had some audible knock at full boost (CA gas) so I backed the timing off a bit. |

I havent tried to mess with timing yet, so far no knock at all even at 18.4 psi on the stock turbo and 92 octane. that kinda scared me so I switched to the gm bcs right after that. are you using the MAP or MAF base map?

I may reload the base map... I looked at it the other day and it didn't look anything like the timing curve I was running initially, I think it may have been messed up somehow.
I'm running MAP base, the MAF map was a complete trainwreck for me. |

You're right, I dl'd the new AEM base map and just copied the ignition cells into my existing map. Smoothed things out tremendously.
Also, I don't know if they've incorporated this into the new map, but if you use AC at all, you need to set "AC Output #2" to LS8 so it switches on the condenser fan when you turn on the AC. Otherwise the AC compressor gets bogged down and the belt slips when the car's not moving on a hot day. |

Oh, and I just got the AEM gauge-type wideband... previously was using a laboratory benchtop system which took up most of the passenger seat. This will make it much easier to watch my AFRs while driving (since I'm pretty much bound to a road tune for now).
