Default Clicking sound when brake pedal pressed 1/3

I have a 12 Impreza 5speed non-wrx. When at a stop (not moving at all) and I press the brake pedal, there is an audible clicking sound at about 1/3 press when engaging and disengaging. I can't hear it when moving due to road noise so can't confirm that, but at a dead stop it makes the sound. Seems like coming from under hood, so not sure whether to check master cylinder etc... or if sounds normal. Fluids are good. Thanks

If it's not affecting your braking performance then I wouldn't worry about it too much. I own a 2007 Impreza and I have a buddy with a 99 2.5rs, they both do it. It's always sounded like a relay of some sort switching to me, but I could be wrong.

did your car have auto hill hold or similar?

my '19 Base WRX (6spd) has auto hill hold and it frustrates me to no end.

If on an incline, at a stop, pedal presses, and at idle, I can feel the pedal move slightly and hear an audible tick sound. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but when I tried to go, I wouldn't go anywhere for 2 seconds.

when it releases, it makes tiny tick sound. needless to say, it's been disabled by me and I do not need auto hill hold, unlike my CVT counterparts.
