Java Black No Spoiler!

Default 04 WRX fixed most of my Knock problems with UTEC. Just 2 problems now!

yay for me. I just dropped time -1 across the board (10-100) from 4700to5300 rpm.

Now I only got 2 problems

1) I still get knock when the control switches from ECU to UTEC. basically once in 1st, and once everytime I shift.

2) I get max boost at 4300rpms in 4th. ***!!! I know this has something to do with running too rich at the low RPMs. Leaner = higher EGTs = faster spool. So can I just do -10 across the board from 0rpms to 2750 rpms from 10-100?

much thanks for all the help!!!!

Maybe pull some timing in the 5200-5500 range?? Looks like the transition from factory to UTEC timing really quick like that 13 knock count in first is too big. Id say try pulling 2 degrees at and taper to the surrounding areas. But, I am far from a tuner so dont expect it to be perfect. That is just a ROUGH GUESS.

Does anyone agree with me?

Kitbar,

Take the lowest timing values from 5000-9000rpms and copy them to the 0% column starting at 5000rpm. Do the same for the fuel map; copy the highest fuel values from the 5000-9000rpm boxes to the 0% column.

Hope that helps...

Cheers!

Hey guys thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna try it. Basically match the timing values for ECu and UTEC to prevent a big jump in timing. awesome.

Also I was wrong about boost not coming till 4.5k rpm. I did some test runs in 3rd and 4th this morning. It was a bit warmer. I got full boost at 3.1k rpm! Yay!

But I got a huge huge smell of gasoline whenever I floored it at that RPM in 3rd and 4th. Is that normal?

Gasoline smell? Hmmm, I know the base maps are pig rich but I've never encountered any gasoline smell when going WOT...

Your IDCs are pegged at 100%. You might want to reduce the amount of fuel. Although I don't recommend doing so without a wideband O2 sensor to measure your true AFR. When I reduced my AFR to 11.5, my IDCs maxed at 89%. This varies from car to car so take it with a grain of salt.

Taking your car to a tuner is money well spent. Most will be able to wring out more HP than you ever imagined possible.

Cheers!

Yes, I am thinking of going to a tuner about 4 hrs away on the thanksgiving week. I am concerned because if I get it tuned, will the turboxs permanant fix for the 04 rex cause my tuned maps to be worthless? I think the permanant fix should make the 04 rex go rich immediately when you go WOT rather than waiting a few seconds. Is that right?

No, the tune will not make your tuned map worthless because your tuner will come up with a new map. You can even ask him to make you 2 maps... ex. one performance and one economy.

Yes, the permanent fix is supposed to do that but seems like it's going to be a while before it comes out.

Cheers!

Kit,

FYI, I've been getting knock like crazy the last two weeks, when I was never getting it before. I've narrowed it down to 'winterized gas' from the BP/Amoco station I fill up at.

I've been gettnig nock as well in the last weeks after the car was running great for like months! it's either the cold air is causing too much boost or i got winter gas from somewhere!
