I could. Its a debate I've been having with myself. I have the donor turbo and a set of injectors. The walbro is already in the car. I could have the turbo upgrade done in a couple weeks and be tuning next month (open source, myself). But.......my clutch has 130k miles on it and I'm not sure it will handle the additional power or how long it'll last. I was also debating building up the EJ22T that's been sitting in my garage for over a year. It'd be so much easier to replace the clutch, injectors, and turbo while swapping engines.

What if we stop debating and actualy DO IT?
Even if youre not happy with the results you can sell the turbo to someone else and get 80% of your money back - unlike some other people who are stuck with AP or can not tune themselves. For them it will be extra $400 wasted for the tune Quote:
Stick to the plan... one step at a time... and you will actualy get somewhere and maybe post some much appreciated NEW data. 17k views of this thread and only two guys who actualy had something evidence based to post |

95k here, original OEM clutch, went from bone stock to full 18g setup @ 20psi making about 300whp, no slippage yet, i say go for it so we can see how this thing does! |

IMHO this turbo would be a horrible match for the 2.5L. The extra displacement would easily push this turbo into surge down low in the higher gears.....
If i had a 2.5L I would go with a TD06H-18G or bigger.... |

well the whole point for me wanting this upgrade is for the cheapness. and mid-range. like others have said, i dont really push past 5k rpm on the street, let alone on auto-x courses anyways.

Hmm...haven't been in this thread for a while. I see a lot of people are still on the fence, I was one of those. I grabbed an EVO III 16G and never looked back, and am very, very happy. I hit 21 psi on the road roughly 35-3600 rpm. Can't log actual psi past 18.43, so it's a guess, but its at 18.43 at 3400. And it's a freight train that continues to make hp to redline. If you have a good tuner, I really don't see what the point of this turbo is. I guess if you don't want to pull through the whole powerband and need that much power before 3500rpm, then go for it. You will get bored of power falling off and the level of it's power.
This is a great idea for auto-x, and maybe rally-x I guess, but if you want to really upgrade to a different turbo, just go with the EVO III. |

When 2.5L guys are spooling up 16G's faster then 2.0L guys are spinning up their TD04's what does that tell you? No one is gonna come out of a corner and want full power at 1800 RPM in an autocross course. That's just dumb driving. A 16G on a 2.5L can have around 300wtq by 3000 RPM. You want it sooner than that? If you have a 2.5L and want this turbo, then you have to take into account some important things. -You'll easily be able to push this turbo into surge in higher gears (have a look at the compressor map and see for your yourself) -You'll most likely encounter boost creep. insert EWG here. |

Going to stick with the stock block and stay on the safe side of things. I had some expenses I'd forgotten about, so things have been pushed back a bit. I get to cash in some unused vacation days in January so that'll fund a new clutch and 19t upgrade. I should be up and running in January and hope to have everything tuned by early Feb. Until then I'm going to finish playing with my current stg2 setup and see if I can find a little more power. That should provide a decent base comparison for how much power the 19t adds. |

It's official, I'm running the Blouch TD04 19T upgrade turbo. My new setup as of 3 hours ago:
Blouch TD04 19T PnPed SPT intake & heatshield STi intercooler STi splitter bottom grafted onto a 9-2X splitter top Stylin Motors silicone intercooler hoses Cobb catted downpipe (wrapped) GrimmSpeed manifolds (PnPed & coated) GrimmSpeed cross-pipe (PnPed & coated) GrimmSpeed up-pipe (PnPed & coated) STi mid-pipe STi cat-back Deatschwerks 565cc injectors Walbro 255lph fuel pump NGK Iridium plugs (one step colder) GrimmSpeed EBCS GrimmSpeed gaskets Open Source remote tune from AWDTuning Keith from AWDTuning did a conservative remote tune and refined it once again after my mechanic did some runs. I've only butt-dynoed it, but it's crazy fast with LOTS of torque steering in 1st and 2nd. It's a night and day upgrade from a stock TD04 with an APv2 Stage 2 HWG map which barely got above 15psi. The new setup hit 19.3psi. I'll be working with AWDTuning to refine the remote tune and will eventually have them road tune it when they come to town. After that I'll have it dynoed for you guys. |

Nice! I got a stage 2 tune from Keith not too long ago and love it. I'm hitting 18 psi in third now! I am STRONGLY considering this turbo, it really seems like the most "practical" choice for me. I like the low end, plus top end, not one or the other

Could you post some logs? What rpm in 3rd are you seeing full boost? No need to wait for a dyno, throw the logs into airboy.

AWDTuning's local guy, Chris, flashed the new maps and took the logs. I don't have a Tactrix cable yet. I've asked him for logs (which are a work in progress, of course).

I am seriouslu considering this upgrade. I wonder how it would work with the 4EAT?

All I can give is my contined impression so far...
200 miles later and I freaking love this setup. It doesn't even feel like I'm driving a turbocharged car. There is no "kick in the pants" once you hit boost; it's always there - power builds smoothly and feels almost linear. Again, this is all butt-dyno, and I added the manifolds, crosspipe, and EBCS at the same time as the turbo. |

That is a pretty good impression.
So, if you were to rate this turbo compared to the stock TD04 would it be: 1) Holy ****, this car is a missle now? 2) I can definitely feel some difference but overall, meh? (ie..I should have waited and gotten a bigger turbo) 3) The improvements are definitely noticable, worth the cost involved? This is my DD and I also auto-x so spool is almost more important than top end HP. I would like to see an increase in whp and wtq though. |

It's a 1.5 :P
I could have bought a bigger turbo, but I wanted Stage 2 spool and more power for my daily driver. This is ideal for that IMHO. |

Blouch TD04 19T Upgrade
It is unfortunate that all that happened to you, but this is the first time Ive ever heard of anything like that from Blouch. Friend of mine has one of their big dominator turbos on his GSX and had a great experience with them.
