I will be working so all of you should stay away from my work so I don't have to work on your bikes. You and I need to talk so I can get your bike tuned to stage 2

Sounds like fun, but I probably couldn't keep up as I haven't ridden in ages.

monroe is too far of a commitment for me right now. maybe later in the summer. is there a good mix of terrain up that way? I haven't done much riding on my bike yet and still trying to gain some confidence on it again.

hoping to put together a get together at Colonade some evening after work.

Yeah, there is a good variety of terrain. Hills, singletrack, streams to cross, waterfalls, open area, wooded trails. Hardly anyone out there either. Some great riding out by you next to the round about at the end of Hwy 203 and Falls city. Been out there a couple times.

If Sunday works better that would be fine for anyone interested. Conditioning is no biggie. Just out to have fun!

I bought a mountain bike on Friday and probably road it 20 miles this weekend (thats a lot for me, I haven't ridden a bike further than a mile or two since I was 14). Its a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be...but I'm too far up north to ride with you guys, plus I suck at riding.

Does anything know of a good mountain bike forum/review site? The bike I bought came carzy aggressive wide mud tires on it that don't get any traction in gravel, I need some good hybrid tires but know nothing about bicycles.

Down to go but the bike needs a tune badly...

Anyone have any recommendations on where to go and get it tuned at?

I'm up in B'ham. I got a 2006 Gary Fisher hardtail with a 4" travel front shock that can be locked out. I don't remember the model but it is an aluminum frame and pretty nice (I think it was around $600-800 new). Tire size is 26", I think my boss is going to give me the factory tires off his super nice full suspension specialized (he replaced them with street tires).

I have already bought a couple things for the bike... Its nice coming from modding a car to modding a bike, instead of spending $200-1000+ for parts I'm spending $15-40, lol. If I have time tonight I'm going to find some bar ends online.

Actually I'm thinking to buy a decent mountain bike with the price range of $500-$650. I found one for $650 at Performance Bicycle with full suspension, disk brakes with hydraulic. Any recommendation on which bike and where to buy it? I live in Auburn.

In that price range I would suggest a hardtail. All the bike manufacturers jumped on the full suspension wagon years ago but to get the costs down on those entry level models they put really lousy components on them. A hardtail in the same price range will have better brakes, better shifters etc. This matters as pieces wear. You'll have a much better ride on a bike that works well compared to a full suspension bike that won't shift and breaks. My 02 cents.

Also, CRAIGSLIST, as usual is a great place to find slightly used, higher end equipment at a good savings.

I think that is the place. Good spot to ride with varied terrain for beginners to experts. Nice terrain park too.
