I was just going to post this exact same question.
From what little info I found they seem like a good tire for the money. Last edited by MKIVSupra; 11-04-2003 at 11:52 PM. |

It all depends on what you are looking for in a winter tire and what`s the temperature where you are.
2 friends of mine had these last winter on their respective RS and the compound is defitively too hard for -15C. The compound gets so hard, that one of the instructors at a winter performance driving school qualified them as "Wood Tires". If you drive like mom and pop you won't have a problem with them.... but if you enjoy spirited winter driving on ice and snow you should choose another tire. Phil =) |

I don't know how well this translates between makes, but I've been running Semperit Direction Grips for the past 2 Vermont winters and have nothing but good to say about them. Never been stuck, never felt like I was out of control. Mind you, I don't slow down in winter. Guess it's the 24 years of Vermont winter driving under my belt.

I just put a set of them on my car yesterday, but not snow miles yet.
Got them from discounttiredirect.com for $111 each (225-45-17). Will post a review in a week or so.... -Jason |

I have these in a T-rated OE size. So far I have no complaints and we have had snow, ice and -20C already in Edmonton. They are fairly quiet and inspire confidence. For eg. in an icy parking lot that you can barely walk on, you are able to take off normally without any slippage. For the price, very good value.

280 bucks delivered in oem size. Can't beat the value aspect. My friend has had them on his VR6 for two years with no complaints. have yet to try in the snow but anything will be better than the RE92's I think. I was at a rally up in Maine last December as a spectator and had the stockers on. We hit alot of snow on the way home through Vt and I have never been so uncomfortable braking and turning as I did with the potenzas.
Of course now that I have purchased snow tires it will not snow here. Murphys law. |

Well I finally had the chance to try these out last night. I went out at 12:30AM after about an inch fell before any plow came by at all to give them a test run. I have to say, I was impressed. I picked them up for $90/piece in 225/40/17 also from tiresavings.com - + $46 shipping for all 4. So for around $100 a piece, they have at least initially outperformed my expectations. I was able to stop hard from 30+ mph in a straight line, go around curves rather quickly with minimal, controlled sliding. I'm looking forward to trying them out in something a bit deeper to see how they do, but initial impressions are very positive for those who want a big improvement over RE070's but are on a tight budget such as myself. Wet traction has also been good. Dry is a little bit squirrley, but if you slow down a notch it's quite liveable.
I'd recommend them. |

I have nothing but good things to say about these tires. I've been running the T rated 16's for 2 years now and been through some good dumpage. I've actually have had to "plow" through 20" twice to get out of my parking lot. They also perform well in the dry, they track better than the re's and are quite stable in cornering. I'd say they are a good "winter tire" as opposed to a snow tire specifically.

I just got semperit sport grips for my evo (235/45HR17) at tiresavings.com the direct link for semperit sport grips is: https://www.tiresavings.com/tireShop...rit+Sport+Grip they dont have 205/55/16 but they do have 205/50/16 at $67 per tire. They are based in NY, shipping to Boston cost about $36. Should be cheap for you since you're closer. Have fun ice racing !!!

hey bringing up this thread because i just put some of these on my car and they feel super squirmy. this is my first set of snow tires to maybe this is how they are, or maybe its that i'm going from 17" summer tires to 16" winter tires but my car feels quite unstable when i turn, especially in the rear. i had the tire pressure set to 40 psi all around and didnt like it at all, so i bumped it up to 50 just to see if it changed things. it did make things feel better although i'm sure 50psi is too high to runon these regularly. i think i'll drop them to about 45psi and see how that works, but i'm wondering what everyone else runs for tire pressure on these in a 205/55/16...
thanks bryan |

u cannot drive a snow tire in the dry like you drive a summer tire, especially now that you have alot more sidewall.

well i didnt expect it to feel the same, but not such a major difference. it almost felt unsafe to me... i know it takes some adjusting but not sure how squirmy these should really feel in a normal lane change situation or something similar.

I had a set on my obs last year. My first time with winter tires but they performed very well in my opinion. I have since gone up in size so im putting them up for sale. Four 2004 OBS five spoke wheels with Semperit Sport Grip 205 55 16 there's a lot of thread left . However, one tire has a bulge but i used it like that all last winter.
