Job opportunities similiar to women opportunities?
I'm sure everyone has noticed that more women seem to fall into their laps when they are already in relationships, I'm noticing the same thing seems to happen when you aren't actively looking for a job.
I'm not SUPER happy where I'm at but I'm not unhappy either. Sure my case for a promotion was turned down but now we have a new manager who is actually already working towards building a case for some new roles I could take. Thing is, I just got a job where the new role would be approx 6 months after starting vs possibly a year where I'm at.... Seems like a great opportunity doing what SHOULD have been happening where I'm at. Of course, at the new place the same crap could happen assuming I maintain my same level of productivity, since they'd never let me hire underlings for me if I can do it all myself. That being said I'm super swamped at the moment since I have a vacation coming up in 3 weeks and some dental work happening next week and I don't really have time to interview until the end of June and I don't know if that is going to fly. they have been trying to fill this position for quite some time, I first heard about it last year but the role has been expanded to include the words "lead" and "architect" in the title, two things I am really looking for. hmmmmmm.

the second truck eventually helps the first one. They both benefit. Cars do the same , but thier back ends are sharp and aero'd in comparison to a box trailer, and not as noticable until the vehicles get bigger. A diesels throttle reveals it when it happens, I have done it several times...it even effects the brakes, not that one could slam them with a truck close enough to change speed...

hmm. I couldn't think of a good way to articulate my point via the topic...
when you have a gf, you tend to have more opportunities for further sexy time with other womens. When you don't have a gf, the opportunities tend to be less common. when you are looking for a job, you dont find many. when you are pretty comfortable, job opportunities present themselves. That make more sense? |

yeah, as you know I was doing that for most of the past 3 years, my contract stuff on the side recently dried up.
So anyways, I guess the main point here is how do I schedule an interview when I have no time to do so for like 6 weeks? |

well, that is fine and dandy if I was in a position where I wear a suit to work... if I come to work in a shirt, tie, slacks someone will know what is up. I only recently stepped things up to a button down shirt at work with my jeans and sneakers... I could of course bring a suit and stuff it in a locker at ogilvie station, but I'm not sure the lockers are large enough to support a suit without wrinkling it...

But seriously, everyone noticed when i started wearing button up shirts, albeit in a comical way. This is a relatively small department, so tongues wag. |

The difference is when you have one of those you just assume you could follow through, and when you don't, you discover just how difficult it is. Nothing more entertaining than listening to married guys talking about how this or that girl would have boned them, but they decided to go back to the hotel instead. |

Do what one of my co-workers at my last place did...
Wear a suit, when people joke about you going on job interviews, tell them that actually you have to leave early today for a funeral. That shuts down the amusing comments quickly. |

I am COMPLETELY swamped getting projects out the door before I go on vacation, I have no backup so this stuff has to hit prod before I go and one project in particular will cost us about half a million dollars a week in lost revenue if it is delayed. Under normal circumstances when recruiters call I typically just ignore them since the majority of the jobs doing what I do are in the financial sector which I completely hate. I'm currently working for cars.com and the stuff I end up working with is actually interesting to me. The new job would be for a GIS company that provides map data for several major online mapping sites as well as their own content for mobile phones, GIS is also something that has always interested me so this looks like it could be a cool job. The other upside is this job is the same position I am trying to get my current company to create for me but they are dragging their feet. So it would be a step up in responsibility and pay (hoping for a 10-15k bump) with the option of further achieving an additional step up once we add more headcount to my team. I still think cars.com is a slightly cooler place to work and this is the first time in 5 years that I actually LIKE my coworkers, but whatever, my career is sort of stagnated here... |
