I'm not suggesting drilling is the best solution... but if it is, here's what might make it easier/possible.

You are going to have to pull the radiator to remove the bolt. There is just not enough room to do it otherwise.

Find the correct size drill bit.
Find the correct size easy-out.

I'd soak the broken bolt first with PB Blaster to give you a head start.

Default broke bolt

If I remember correctly you can remove the entire bracket. A couple bolts to the passengers side of the tensioner.

It's a little different tensioner but yes, the bracket does unbolt. The question will be is it serviced or can you locate one.

That's not a problem, tensioner bracket is removed and broken bolt extracted but have another problem now. After installing timing belt, all marks properly lined up did the usual start engine test to make sure every thing right but apart from a little cough engine declined to start.Went back to beginning and reset everything, same result so thinking problem elsewhere. Checking on cam pulleys and discovered retaining bolt driver side was loose.so suspected sheared key.On removal found keyway on shaft and on pulley but also a pin driven through the pulley and apparently engaging the keyway on the shaft. Is this the correct setup?

Every thing hooked up as per normal,Just cant get her to fire, pretty sure it's a timing issue but not sure what to do next. Do you know at what serial # ej22s became interference motors? I ask because this is not the original engine but was bought as a 96 so should not be.

From what I remember the single port exhaust are interference and the dual port are not.

Hi Stroker. Absolutely no reason why either would apply but I did check anyway and have spark and fuel.

No fuel or no spark = no run

fuel, spark and in time usually = run

of course there is compression but was trying to be simple
