Default 2012 passenger seat question.

It's a quick question. Can anyone with a '12 Impreza sport with the cloth seats check the passenger seat bottom towards the front center? Mine has what feels like a hole under the material that I just noticed. It feels square. Just wondering if anyone else has this.
Thanks

Paul

Your not alone. I have the same hole in the passenger seat. Discovered it a few weeks ago.

Does this have an effect on the functionality of the seat? Or is it purely aesthetics?

Got me curious. I'll check today when I go out and report back. Only thing I could possibly think of, (which really does not make sense), would be for maybe a heated seat wire to go down beneath the seat if equipped, but you would expect that to be at the base of the seat.

Pretty easy to locate. Mine has the hole under the surface as well.

Right in the middle near the front of the seating surface. You will be able to feel it easily.

Also wondering if the hole is all the way through? Or, maybe where a wire for the heated set option would go through? Who knows.

Strange, but I don't intend to lose any sleep over it.

Maybe that was what tipped the scale allowing the newly lightened car to achieve better mpg's

Yeah, that is what I would have expected. It's not really logical for wiring to be up there. Merely speculation on why there is a hole there. You could put a drain tube with a funnel on top into a container under the seat so the passenger could..................

Yes, I have the sport and have the hole too. Someone told me it could be for the airbag sensor. I am not gonna worry about it.

Actually a line worker realized he could snip that 1/4" piece of foam from every seat, and open a side business making mattresses from the piece of foam.

Similar to stealing 1/8th cent off the interest of bank deposits, nobody usually notices it is gone, and the brilliant mastermind becomes a millionaire...

My oassanger seat sensor goes off randomly for the seatbelt! And no one will be in the passanger seat. And than it will turn off at random.
Have to turn the car off at times and turn it back on to turn it off.

You have the old defective airbag sensor module, they'll replace it under warranty. It's likely caused by a cell phone, iPod or other interference-giving device (laptop, etc)

Technical Service Bulletin # 17-16-12
Pages: 8

Bulletin Description: If you encounter a customer complaint that the Air Bag Warning Light was illuminated and the Passenger Air Bag Indicator was OFF when the passenger seat was occupied, the Occupant Control Unit may need to be replaced. This bulletin is only applicable if DTC B1650, B1760 and/or B1761 are also stored in memory. A possible occupant action that may have resulted in this condition would be the use of an iPod or cell phone (plugged into the Accessory power outlet) by someone seated in the passenger seat when the ODS is On. Another cause may be a seated passenger touching a metal part of the vehicle that is electrically grounded (i.e. forward/rearward seat adjuster lever) when the ODS is On. The possibility of these conditions affecting the ODS is dependent upon the occupant’s personal capacitance. To reduce the possibility of the condition reoccurring, the Occupant Control Unit logic was modified to be less sensitive under those conditions.

Lol, I've never actually read that one before because I didn't have the problem yet. Don't sit in the seat and touch something or plug something in! Comedy if I've ever seen it in a TSB.

I had my whole seat bottom replaced. It turns out its just a sensor for the airbag. It uses more than just weight sensing, but not sure what.
