Default Advice for future 4 Gen Full STI Swap

I am in the beginning stage of planning for a full sti swap into a 4 gen legacy/outback wagon 05-06. Looking at salvage outbacks wagons and legacy wagons. I was wondering if I will run into any issues swapping if i decide to go with the outback wagon,. I know they are heavier due to the additional options. Any other issues? Originally i planned to do the swap on my 2000 but i realized it was not worth it.

You going to just do the motor swap or you buying a wreaked STi so you get everything. If you going for a whole Sti get a 08-09. It will cost more but then you can use all the suspension goodies because they share the same setup.

There shouldn't be an issue with an outback over any other legacy model. If you are doing the tranny swap find a car that's a manual too unless you are swapping the harnesses as well. Converting a Automatic Harness to work correctly with a manual is a PITA.

Buy one with an h6 in it and all buy your motor and crap haha.

No, just buy a turbo legacy or outback. Then all you really need is the 6-speed stuff and a bigger turbo

Also the rear suspenion between the 4th gen legacy and an 08+ impreza is not the same.

The 05/06 LGT already has the STI shortblock.
If you're going to swap turbos, do something bigger than a VF39.

+1 to ^

i know a guy with an 05 LGT, he swapped on STi heads and an STi intake manifold and that's all he needed because the rest (engine wise) is the same.

as far as Outback vs Legacy, the only real difference is the height of the suspension. everything else should be very similar.

If you think it's not worth it in an older, cheaper model, then its certainly not worth it in one thats more expensive, newer, and already came available with an STI-block from the factory
