The Packers could lose every game and still sell-out.

Because Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Weed DUI and holding out of camp back to back? Yeah, all business.

Business as in the only thing he cares about is himself not football. Not one of those "lay it on the line whatever it takes to win" guys. And honestly, I don't care. Put up numbers and win games then do whatever the hell else you want. I'm just relieved the Steelers didn't pay all the monies for a guy on the wrong side of his career, although once Ben retires in a year or two it wont matter anyway.

In the defense of all players in general, they are just assets and several teams treat their players as such. RB pay has gone down overall in the last 5-10 years, because the thought process is they have a shorter lifespan than most other players and the position tends to have good success from draft rounds anywhere from 1-5 it seems. It makes sense for a team to want to shift resources away from a position like this, and spend it on positions that have less success overall, but longer lifespans, say QB's and WR's. Especially since the game has gone away from the RB as the mainstay, except in a few offenses. THat's not to say the RB isn't needed, but for example in Bell's case, he has tier2 WR numbers, on top of being a Tier 1 RB. The guy SHOULD get paid, if it wasn't for the current mentality.

I am not a Steelers fan, so I am invested in the Bell situation as he won't be coming to Philly anytime soon anyways. Maybe he's a giant douche off the field, or in interviews, and that shades the situation worse. However, I can't blame the guy for wanting to get paid when his career could only have a few more years (A la Demarco Murray) and he needs to get his while he is still viable. Is his decision foolhardy? Maybe, but we will see when it plays out after this year. I just see so many times a team cuts players, especially non-star players, on a whim or to suit their needs, even when the player is all in on that team. It's business, and I get it, but I think so does Bell and some of these other holdouts, and they are just treating the contract table as their financial aspect of their business.

EDIT: Just researched that RB pay is starting to come back a bit.

I'm 100% for NFL players wanting to get all the money. They have pretty much the worst contracts in all of pro sports, with most likely the highest possibility of suffering a career ending injury at any time. The shelf life for RB's is incredibly low, so getting paid should be their #1 priority. Bell is rolling the dice on not getting hurt for getting the long term deal that he wants, which he'll definitely get in FA next year.

From a Steelers fan perspective, he's not worth that $. When you look at the production that's out there with guys on rookie contracts (Hunt, Kamara, Gurly, Fornette, etc) it's insane to pay Bell his $ when you can get production that's close for a fraction of the cost. Bell only has a couple of good years left as it is. They've run the wheels of him his entire career (he easily lead the league in atts last season with 321) and gets blocking from one of the top O lines in the league. The team desperately needs to put that $ to a LB. Without Bell in 2019 and Shazier off the books) they'll free up $23.3M in cap space which should go a long way to replenishing a defense that gave up friggin 45pts to Blake Bortles

I think it's ridiculous that the owners will lockout so that players as a whole don't get more than 50% of revenue.

I agree with you and you have a good handle on the team. Just saying. He was "Steeler for life" and now is all about the money. He could retire there and be a legend like The Bus but is going the route of Mike Wallace and chase the highest bidder and be forgotten in a few years.

Stealers could have offered up a bit more than $10 million guaranteed too. He's suppose to be Stealers for life, and give the Stealers a giant discount?
