from the first post in this thread....
origionally posted by unabomber "I have an 06 WRX, is the downpipe the same? No. The 2006 WRX has a unique exhaust in that it's downpipe is both the downpipe and catpipe sections of the "older" exhaust. This means you must use a "long" downpipe to bolt up to the rest of your exhaust system. A full TBE will fit fine, but when replacing just the downpipe, you must use a long downpipe. Check with your Vendor for other possible fitment issues prior to ordering." |

Boost creep is covered in the boost creep sticky in the 2.5L forum. There's more to it than downpipe type/design.

What are torque specs for the downpipe to the turbo? I couldn't find this information in searches. Thought it might be helpful here.

According to Cobb, the torque spec is about 26 ft-lbs.

I just ordered the helix dp and the mechanical cel fix is back ordered. Will running the car with the CEL cause it to go into limp mode or anything of that sort?

I know there is stuff out there about it, but you might want to add something about the AC drip line. It might help stop the "I just installed my DP now it smells and is smoking" thread. If I missed something about in one of the vendor or scoobymods instructions I apologize. Great write up though. As are pretty much all of them are.

Can anyone explain to me about a downpipe that regulates the acuator vs. a non-regulated? I was somehow convinced to get a divorced downpipe a while back.. I purchased the shorty downpipe by Bosal. When I accelerate out of vacuum to boost (negative to zero to positive on a boost gauge), I've always been hearing this whistling sound while the needle of the boost gauge is a mid-negative numbers (during vacuum). My car can peak at 0.11MPa with my modifications, which includes Perrin lightweight crank pulley, Version 7 STi up pipe, Bosal shorty divorced downpipe and an ECUTek tune up. While trying to solve my car's mediocre list of problems, I'm trying to understand how my stock turbo works with my downpipe and I'm hoping that it might be resolving issues upon being educated with my car's aftermarket parts and their functionalities (sorry for the run-ons). So I spoke with a friend and the matter of how my downpipe regulates the actuator brought up to attention. To get to the point, how does my bosal downpipe work with my turbo's waste gate actuator?
I was told that in order to hold boost, the wastegate should be closed. With the stock down pipe having a backing plate, it is able to hold the wastegate close. Then it made me wonder how a huge bellmouth down pipe would work. |

The turbo is ALWAYS spinning and thats probably the whistle you are hearing. Even at idle there is a flow of exhaust over the turbine and spins the turbo. Generally they whistle or make noises but you can only hear it at low RPM, then its immediately drowned out by engine and exhaust noise. HTH |

Bell Mouth DP on WRX ADM 2006
Just installed a Kakumei DP(bell mouth) on my WRX ADM 2006,apparently since ADM and JDM spec are all right hand drive, installing other DP other than the flat needs some modification. The bellmouth DP is in the wayy of the steering rod.Either ask for refund and buy JDM spec DP like KHS or modified the DP. I did the later part. My mechanic took a chunk out from the side of the bell mouth to make way for the steering rod. SO beware when buying DP for ADM and JDM car

Do you still have to do the CEL fix if you use AP to clear the codes?

You are seriously risking engine health by running a downpipe on a 2006 without EM. This is probably covered in the Engine Management section of Unabombers manifesto if not in this sticky already....
