Default So I've done my research, now just a few questions from actual users..

I am going to pull the trigger on a BRZ once the honeymoon is paid off (the "boss" agreed on that instead of "after the wedding"...)

I was torn in between a FR-S and a BRZ but coming from a few subarus and noticing the vast differences in interior and what not, BRZ hands down...

A few final questions though..

*Coming from a 2002 stg II wrx wagon, besides cargo room, what should I expect to be pros and cons?
*How do these work in the snow? I live in Missouri afterall...
*What is your real world mpg? I noticed Autoweek saying 31.9mpg or something?
*Finally, what options do I have as far as simple power adders? I am almost tired of loud cars but still want a little pep... I plan on plenty of suspension, just want to have a normal sounding car I can drive around without my ears bleeding.

24mpg combined, lots of rush hour highway and city traffic. ~30mpg or higher on a full highway tank at reasonable speeds with little throttle modulation. Works fine in snow with ~100lbs in the trunk and proper snow tires, but it's still RWD.

Handling will be worlds better, power is meh.

Not sure about the snow, my first winter with mine. I plan on running dedicated snows (Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRTs on 16" RS 5-spokes).

My mpg is around 28, but I like the throttle pedal to be touching the floor.

I installed a Perrin intake elbow; the Perrin catback will be on soon. After that a tune to hopefully mitigate the torque dip. This will be my baseline before adding anything else. I've heard the overpipe really makes a difference.

Both colors are kind of boring. Gunmetal, I suppose.

My current commute is 95% highway with the other 5% being getting to the high way from my house and back lol. I have a motor cycle as well which I primarily use when its nice and for around town stuff. my wrx gets like 23mpg, max.

I drive "cautiously" fast... on the bike I do about 80-85 to work on the highway, in the car... 75.

I've had 2 wrb wrx's so I am over that... I love white cars, and I believe its actually SWP so it'll have a nice bling to it... Grey cars appeal to me in that they dont show a lot of wear and tear over time. Our mini is dark grey and looks fantastic on the black enkei's we put on.

Thanks for the input guys. I look forward to it! Been tossing the ideas around of what to get next and had completely forgotten about how little these cost even for a limited. I wont make the same mistake I made with my wrx and half ass the mods... I plan on being clean and simple. Biggest pet peeve of the BRZ is the big silver plastic panel on the dash around the nav that extends to the pass side... I see JP coach works and a few other places make clean alternatives for not a lot of money.

What kind of bike? I ride a 2008 Buell Lightning XB12S.

What other dash panel covers besides JPM?

I can literally launch this car from every stop light and STILL get better gas mileage than my 2002 WRX EVER did. Better range per tank in this car even though the tank is 3 gals smaller.

I thrash on my car all day and get 20mpg average.

For around $200 you can get the black interior pieces that most of the BRZ Premium has and the lowly GT-86 RC have and you can get rid of the silver trims.

I drive mostly highway traffic miles and get around 25.5, that's with me shifting as little and late as possible. I have gotten over 30mpg a couple of times. As far as the winters go I have posted pictures of me driving through a snow storm in Vermont with the stock tires on, which btw are the biggest downfall of the car. Everything else is amazing and I think you will really enjoy it if your a true car guy.

I've seen carbon fiber replacements, I beleive password JDM or seibon made them, not quite sure off the top of my head. I definitely would say that the JPM is the cleanest and matches the best.

I've just got a little ninja, I love the buells though. the ninja is my mpg getter and also my first bike, once I got back onto a bike. I will be looking for a triumph 675r at some point down the road most likely.

Yea, I wouldnt imagine its hard... freaking gas hogs. I've never had a car that got good gas mileage, subarus, jeeps, trucks. etc

Yea, I just want something I can have fun in again and not worry about turbo's or a **** load of extra moving parts. I like simple and fun.... as long as it growls like a boxer.

Nice next bike choice. I used to professionally wrench on Triumph (and BMW) motorcycles. Triumph makes some really good machines. They are basically Japanese in design and manufacture. And they have a really good warranty/support network.

Good deal. I love the look and the sound of them. Plus you dont see them all too much. The white/blue special edition is what I have in mind. I am open to other bikes so we'll see what I end up with.

I drive mine very hard and have about 80% highway, 10% county back roads, 10% city. I drive 48 miles one way and checked today to show that I average 29.5 mpg. The car also sees short burst of triple digit speeds when I'm running late

The handling will amaze you. The car is low, low, low. You sit with your butt inches from the road.

The back seat is useless except for carrying your (small) groceries. Or your kids that have no legs.

I put Blizzaks on mine last winter and it was fun in the snow. Traction control is your friend, and it works very well.

27.5 mpg in mixed driving. A couple of mpg less now that I supercharged it.

If you keep it naturally aspirated, anything that will get you substantial (15+ whp) power will be VERY noisy. A car with a header and full aftermarket exhaust is pretty loud. Look to forced induction for a quiet-but-powerful solution. But of course that costs more; figure $4000-ish for your least expensive F.I. options.

Always a plus if you can make the car fun at the same time.

I bet, I do 90% highway for work. I assume this will change once I actually want to drive my car lol

It will most definitely stay N/A unless something big changes in the future. I want something compeltely reliable. I dont mind a little noise, I'll probably end up missing the sound after a while. I switch exhausts quite a bit on my car, but when I'll put a quiet one on... I feel like its the quiet part of a movie where something really bad is about to happen lol

I would go with the FRS. They seem to be easier on warranty claims. Subaru seems to be doing it's classic abuse line a lot on these cars.

no climate control/push start and missing other things the BRZ has. The 2014 BRZ went up $100... while the "cheaper" FRS went up almost $600. Narrowing the gap on them... I priced out both and both are about $28k and change. so I would rather stay with a brand I know, plus if I dont sell my car out right, the subaru in town gives top dollar for other subarus.

I think the FRS looks cheaper, it could be the fact that it has a scion badge on it. I dont plan on modding it like crazy so I am not worried about voiding any warranties. Most I will do it is a couple bolt ons/suspension/tint/wheels and then small things like interior bits that are all cosmetic.

I'd also like to see the resale value in 5-6 years on a subaru opposed to a scion.

coupe the color of mayonaise. I have wanted a white car for soooooo long. The wifeys mini is gunmetal with black enkei's. It just depends on what the dealer will have in stock, if neither I can just order it

I am actually in the process of ordering a SWP BRZ. Local scion dealership has an dark blue FRS for 24k, but limited BRZ fit the bill better.

Your question thread has been nice for the snow question I had. Good luck with the car hunt.

BRZ limited is the only way to go if you want a great DD, imo the interior in the premium/FRS is way too cheap. unless this is a track toy, i dont see why someone wouldn't get a limited...

the only cons are what you mentioned cargo room, but honestly with the seats folded down its quite big, i havne't had issues where i couldn't fit something yet. the bugeye seats IMO are the most comfortable seats, however the brz has probably one of hte best factory seats i've yet to sit in...the other thing is power, but honestly the brz is peppy, you never feel like its struggling. it loves to be reved, so the one thing you'll need to adjust to is dropping multiple gears as apposed to downshifting once and going.

i had it last winter, and it was fine. granted i DID get stuck but thats when i tried to drive through a few feet of unplowed snow and ended up having to come to a stop, THEN i got stuck. otherwise its really not so bad, people have been driving RWD in snow for decades...just dont be dumb

it all depends on driving style. i usually range from 23-27mpg combined highway and city. granted i drive it harder than most. if you behave you can easily attain 30mpgs, but who would want to do such a thing in this car?

the biggest issue IMO is the fact that the car's gas tank is pretty small. while it does have great MPG's it doesn't have a long range.

header-front pipe-overpipe-catback. there is no realy reason to go crazy on this car, so i suggest you keep a resonater and atleast one cat. its NA so without all those it will get pretty raspy.

the biggest issue with this car IMO isn't the lack of power, its the TQ dip. once that is gone the car is really peppy to drive, and the way to ditch that is with a header and tune. honestly there is already SO many different things to do to the car and its been out for a little over a year. if i were you i would drive it around stock and see how you like it, its plenty fun AS IS. i focused on suspension and brakes because thats where this car really shines.

then i also changed the interior to how i like it to be. basically the great thing about this car is that you get the perfect chassis, and then the rest is up to you to make it your own. for starters i recommend a good set of tires, that will make a world of difference. feel free to pm with questions, i'll be happy to help where i can!
