I'm looking at buying a used unmarried V1 from a friend.

He was using it on his 04 STi. Will it work without any problems on my 05?

no,AP v1's are year model specific

What if I download 2005 maps to it?

sorry to bring this up on an old thread, but just in case someone else was having this issue.

Since the AP V1 is vehicle specific it will not allow you to load maps onto it unless they are for the year of the vehicle it was programmed for... Learned this the hard way. Bought a used AP V1 that was from a 2005 STi and it will not work on my 04.

When you try to load 04 maps onto it you get an error that says invalid version and you cannot update firmware on AP V1

I have a ap v1 off an 04 sti if you are interested,comes with the street tuner software for 150.00.pm me if interested.I tuned a guys car with O/S and he gave me the ap as part payment.
