Lightbulb Solution to the "spotted" thread problem

People have been complaining that the spotted thread is getting futile. nobody knows who's a member and who isn't. So, the solution: Bring back the "club hand signal" .

Igg, even though it is futile, it's a container. If we DIDN'T have the spotted thread, people would fill up over 1/2 of the front page with "SPOTTED: WRB Wrx, was that you?"

So I think it should stay. By offering a place to do it, it keeps the other stuff away from the main topics/bashing.

Yeah, I'm with KC.

I agree that the thread's kinda sloppy, but... it's definitely the lesser of the evils.

I think a couple pages back (as of now, 10/7 in the AM) we talked about this...rather than kill the thread or make rules, just have some common sense. If it's stock and parked, chances are against the person finding you in the thread. But KC's right...if we can the thread, it'll get ugly in the main forum. If the spotted thread gets ugly, well, out of sight, out of mind.

nononono..... I'm not saying kill the thread. I check that thing every day . I agree that if it left we'd be bombarded with "I saw this guy" threads. but they were trying to come up with "spotting criteria" to try and narrow down the search so we don't get a million "I saw this stock WRB wrx. anyone here?" posts, now that there are so many WRXs out there. If we used a signal that we could recognize eachother by, we'd know wether we should post or not. just a suggestion.

I don't know about you guys, but I barely have the time to wave, let alone lower my window and shock someone. Probably just because I'm a space shot.

Humm,

I know, I may be able to, with a little engineering come up with a map point and click system that I can record all our "spots" on a seperate page.

Sorta like putting push pins on a map, thoughts, suggestions?

Our ECUs have a GPS ???
Is this only the newer WRX's or also the older Legacys & RSs ?
I have been using a "Tripple A" battary powered EARTHMATE GPS receiver (that totally suxs) for my laptop. Is there a mechanisim for interfacing the GPS in the ECU to either an old fashioned serial or USB port ?

Nope- you'll need an RS-232 cable and some dihydrogen oxide (to clean off the gunk on the RS-232 connector- they put a protective coating on the contacts).

NOOOOOO- it's not behind the naked mole rat... please be serious here. It's actually underneath the airbag module in the center console.

Yeah, I can see from most of the follow-up posts, that most of you think this is something of a joke... Sure putting a GPS directly in an ECU might not seem of the surface to be the most logical thing to do... When you consider that most rental cars, and all General Motors' "ON STAR" equipted cars have some form of a GPS installed, and that GM infact OWNS something like 20% of Subaru. then by definition its only a matter of time before GM starts insisting that Subaru's make GM' "On Star" services available on their cars (they have already started doing this to SAAB, which they own 100% of).

If you are going to make such services widely available, is it more cost effective to add an additional "chip" to your cars or to
add aditional functionality to an existing chip ?

Perhaps that part about wonding if GPS's are included with the older Legacys and RSs is more wishfull thinking than anything else however...

That's almost it. You need to include the middle finger. Proper shockage requires 3 total fingers.
