Yep, flashed the updated STi map with the dx cable right out of the box. I didn't even try messing with any mods on the WCH based cable because I knew I had the second cable coming from China and was hoping that would work. Mine was on an 04 STi ECU though, so the cable from DX worked out of the box, but i'm not sure if the voltage mod is necessary from a 16 bit ecu (02-03 wrx) I would say try it out of the box to see if you can "read UCU" with ecuFlash. (green flash cables connected under the dash), if it doesn't, then go for the voltage mod

Edit: Got a pair of ferrite cores from radio shack today. It solved my rom raider logger cutout issue. So I'm all set now! Last edited by jthatch12; 11-14-2012 at 10:21 AM. |

hey everyone just wanted to let you all know i have successfuly read rom image from an 06 wrx using ecuflash version 1.28 and vag-com cable
here is my setup i used ecuflash version1.28 vag-com cable and drivers romraider ecuedit windows 7 starter first thing i did was install the FTDI drivers for the vag-com cable installed vag-com program i assigned the virtual serial port to com2 opened vag-com program and with cable plugged into vehicle tested cable interface Note: if you have issues with getting a successful interface connections install drivers manually there are 2 drivers that need to be installed i have a pdf that gives you step by step directions by this route once a successful interface connection is made i installed ecuflash v1.28 Note: do not install openport drivers, they will conflict with the FTDI drivers, just hit cancel on 06wrx connect test mode connector (green connector under dash) turn car to run position plug in vag-com cable to car and computer run ecuflash select com2 you should then be able to read the rom image from ecu be sure not to open or close any doors of the vehicle as this will interupt the process and it will fail to read after its finished reading save the hex file but be sure to put ".hex" after whatever you name it or you wont be able to open it and thats it i havent tried flashing it yet that is my next step if anyone wants the pdf install instructions pm me and ill message it to you any other questions on my setup feel free to ask happy tuning!! |

EcuFlash 1.28 VAG-COM ebay cable, (Silver Cable, Blue Connector) FTDI Drivers from ftdichip.com RomRaider Windows Vista 64 bit -I cant get the VAG-COM program from the CD to work at all, it wont install properly, maybe because my computer is 64 bit. -I was able to install VCDS-Lite but it isnt recognizing the cable. When I hit test for COM1 it says "Port status OK, Interface not found." Maybe I need to plug it into the car for it to see the interface? -After the ECU flash install I got an error that said "You have to run the 64 bit version of DPinst.exe on this machine." -I was able to install the FTDI drivers manually so hopefully this error wont matter. -EcuFlash is seeing my cable (COM1). It's dark out right now so tommorrow when I have some daylight I'll try to read from ECU. If it works I'll go forth with trying to delete some CEL codes caused by the stupid secondary air injection system. If it doesnt work I'll try a 32 bit Win7 VM. |

Success!!!!!!!
I was able to read from ECU in ECU flash 1.28. Made a copy of the file and turned off my secondary air injection codes with RomRaider. And I was able to write to ECU! I used Windows Vista 64 bit. Yay, no more CEL, and I can use my cruise control now. I wasnt able to use the VAG-COM program that was on the CD. VCDS-lite may have worked but I didnt even try it. I had trouble with the silver cable at one point so I gave up on it and started using a blue cable. The blue one appears to have a different looking chip in it, and it had a blue LED that lit up when plugged into the car. The silver cable had a red LED that lit up at all times when plugged into the computer. Also, the silver cable came with drivers that appeared to be different. The drivers for the blue cable appeared to be pretty much the same as the ones on the FTDIchip site. I followed soberpoet's directions almost exactly. THANK YOU soberpoet!!! Tip: In device manager, set bits per second to 4800. Also, run all of the programs as administrator. I ran EcuFlash in compatability mode for XP. Not sure if that was needed but it did work so I didnt even try it without doing that. For reference- Driver Provider:FTDI Driver Version: 2.8.24.0 |

i found the link for installation guides for the FTDI drivers here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Docu...tallGuides.htm
step by step instructions helped me out a lot also for those of you who also want to use your computer as a scan tool i found a knock off version of subaru select monitor does everything the dealer can do and works flawlessly with the vag-com cable Note: plug cable into vehicle and your computer before running the software or the com port wont show up http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/.../FreeSSM.shtml with this you will now have a flash tool and subaru scanner ultimate tool enjoy!! also im using the blue vag-com cable that i bought from amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/version-Obd-ii-Cable-409-1-VAG-COM/dp/B009A6IYXK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1354053826&sr=8-7&keywords=obd2+usb the program on the cd only works with volkswagon/audi |

Here is the $10 cable that worked for me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VAG-COM-OBD-...item416d6f0e51
Ebay Seller: etopmarket Lol, when it finally worked I was so happy I didnt have to dish out $600 for an AccessPort, or even $200 for a Tactrix cable. I cant wait to get my TBE, and K&N filter this weekend. I'm planning on going with XPT's stage 2 tune. |

Just bought a VAG-COM for my 04. Did my best research, asked around, and apparently my model is plug-and-go so no chip modification or searching for old ECUFlash versions (from what I've determined).
Will def. need some help when it shows up, but I'm confident. Going to take a Stg2 map from ROMRaider forums and get rid of this AP. Will update in a few days when it arrives |

So I'm trying to read my ECU with my VAG-COM
Tried the newest version of ECUFlash (1.4 something) and I'm getting a "Unable to connect to vehicle interface". All test mode connectors are set, and the flash jump block is plugged in. Click "Read from ECU" then pick my vehicle from the list, click "Read" and get the error. I just put my stock map back on. I'm going to try to use an older version of ECUFlash (1.29) and see if that works. EDIT: OK so I installed ECUFlash 1.29 and I think I got it to read my stock map.. Now I tried to test write to the ECU and when it was finished a dialog box popped up basically telling me if I was finished to disconnect the green test connectors. I then tried to flash a map to the ECU and kept getting the "Voltage is out of range" and that it's 4.32. I turned on my lights, my AC, my rear defroster AND had the jump block in and it still tells me the voltage is low. Any ideas? Last edited by WRXGOBerserk; 04-15-2013 at 05:15 PM. |

I've torn this thread apart and am having a hard time seeing if anyone has successfully used the Ross-Tech cable (mine is a Key-USB) with any of the software in the thread. I got ecuExplorer to recognize the cable in the lower right hand corner, but won't read my DTC's or connect with the car.
Also, I am not sure how many of you have used VCDS, but it is amazing and I was wondering if anyone has made something close to it that works with a Subaru. I'd like to set readiness and it worked like a charm on my Jetta. |

Update from my post above ^
Still couldn't fix the voltage problem.. So I re-flashed, using my Cobb AP, to my old Cobb Stg2 map and got a voltage error. Turn on my lights and AC, and it worked. WTF! |

I hope that pic works. I used the pic from another thread. I do not own the photo. This is what I did to fix the low voltage problem. |

Really? Even with a 2004-2005? I thought you only had to mod the 02-03 cables to flash? I'll give it a try. You had to jump your jumper plug under the dash as well then, yes?
