Default Hi! I'm Stupid!

Yeah, as it reads above, I am stupid. Here is why... I have no clue what CARB approval is. I read about it in regards to intakes, but there was no explanation. Can someone tell stupid ol' me what it is?

Thanks,

stikboy

something you needent worry yourself about since you live outside of california. It's the "smog nazi's", California's ultra strict vehicle codes regearding aftermarket products and such.

Of course this is just my lowly inturpretation of it, I personally don't care to know "all that" about it.

California Air Resource Board

Basically, if something is CARB legal, it won't affect your emissions; so even if you live outside of California, if your intake is CARB legal, I don't think they can fail your tech inspection at the emissions place.

the way i shop is, if it says "not carb approved" or "for off-road use only", i know its the product i want, max power no regards for emissions. but then again i live in arkansas and nobody here has ever even seen an emissions test, so i can get away with that.

Yup, they are correct. I don't know of any aftermarket Subuar parts that are CARB approved, accept maybe a gen 1 or 2 borla header.

When you take your ride to get smogged in a few years, at least keep the stock intake. When they look (if they can see) the header just tell em' "oh the heat shielding has fallen off after years of auto x"

CARB doesn't necessarily mean it robs you of power. You can get a new corvette, and for $20,000, Reeves Callaway will slap on a twin turbo, rebuilt engine, AND have it CARB certified. Although $10,000 goes to CARB. It is just expensive for manufacturers to get their stuff CARB certified. I'm sure the Ganz flow, or Cobb's CAI has little effect on emissions...but is it carb certified, nope!

EDIT: Since you're from "The Birthplace of the Republican Party" you don't need to worry about CARB.
