There were comments about a sedan STI and a widebody WRX for '09. It's called wishful thinking.

And the world is pretty disappointing without some wishful thinking, beav.

economic demand is fueled by wishful thinking for more and better than is currently available, and the producers are supposed to make money by actually providing the supply.

Otherwise we'd all be driving trabants or some other excrement sandwich grade of car, without hope of improvement.

I agree. I'm just saying that comments on the boards and rumors from the dealerships are sometimes the same things. We have no way of knowing what's rumor mill and what's actually flowing down the pipe from Subaru.

Rumors stemming from dealerships usually occur in the following manner:

***8226; Either from a conversation with a factory rep who spoke to the dealer owner, sales manager, sales rep or service rep. That info may or may not be accurate or current. It may be first-hand info, or second- or third-hand info, in which case the accuracy diminishes the more hands it gets passed through.

***8226; Info that is found on the SOA/dealer-only web site.

***8226; Info learned at SOA ride-and drives and/or at dealer-SOA meetings, such as the large annual meeting in which all dealers are invited.

The bottom line is there is usually a shred of truth (if not more) there. The real question is how current is that info. If its old info, it may no longer be true, and there's no way of knowing that.

You left out the most prevalent one:
  • Rumors coming from salesman who browse NASIOC and can't distinguish between internet rumor and official chatter.

We've even got a stickied thread meant to prevent this kind of stuff from recirculating.

You know one of the execs at SOA said in an interview that they expect the 2012 Impreza to get 35 mpg. So, this all sounds inline with what has already been said by Subaru.

The question is if that MPG will be acheived with the base model (hopefully) or only on the hybrid model which is also coming...

I don't think the hybrid will even be a 2012 Impreza. Isn't the hybrid supposed to be launched in 2012, making it a M.Y. 2013? Besides, any hybrid Impreza would have to get MUCH more than 4 MPG better than a Legacy or it'd never sell and thus they'd never meet their CAFE goals. 35MPG has gotta be the anticipated hwy rating for the 2012 naturally aspirated CVT Impreza.

No hybrid expected until 2013 or 2014 model year...

And the info my dealer got was not through the internet but at a meeting at the importer's....

i think Subaru needs to build a small car, one that is slightly smaller than the old bugeye. as long as it has AWD i don't care if it's a coupe, hatch or sedan.
just not a fan of the largeness of all the cars these days. something about the same size as a Toyota Yaris or Hyundai Accent would be nice.
as for the Impreza concept, it looks decent i guess.. maybe a little too mainstream for my taste tho. not a big fan of owning a car that looks like other cars. or maybe i'm just weird?

MPG of Legacy Sedan with CVT with EJ motor + Difference in MPG of 2011 Forester with FB motor versus EJ motor + Lower weight of Impreza model + MPG difference of 2.0 vs. 2.5 = what you are looking for.

How about bringing back the GC? Or something very very close to it? A 2800lb, AWD, EJ25-powered sedan?
The new "big car" trend isn't my cup of tea - I love my little GM6 lol

^^^

now this is a good idea. a modern version of the GC would be great. i still think the 22B is the best looking Impreza to date. bring back the hood with the scoop and the vents, big wing and huge foglights!

edit: and bring back the gold RS 5 spoke rims and make them 17s

The 08 WRX models were all beta test... the following year, Subaru re'released the WRX with everything that everyone wanted a WRX to be.

I'm proud of my 08 because from when I first bought it to now, she's gone a far way and still has so much more potential.
I don't mean to start/open a debate that's been going on for years.. Just trying to answer your question

My current plan is to make the trek from Houston to NY for the NYIAS this year.

Looking on the web I found a picture from this article: (cant seem to figure out how to insert a picture on this forum)

http://autoten.com/2010/05/11/2012-2...d-speculation/

I think this looks pretty good

^^^ seriously? it looks just like the toyota matrix... but maybe the matrix and impreza will be 1 model afterall since the selling point of matrix is the same as impreza - affordable, awd, decent mpg, practical (hatch).

2012-2013 Subaru Impreza rendering and speculation

best car magazine was release rendering picture of Next generation impreza that dua to hit market in 2012.form rendering we can see a more sporty and dynamic impreza. the car look more ballance and flow.the headlight was in L shape that we can see in Nissan's Fuga or infinity.this car will have some styling cues that carry from New Subaru sport car that co develope with toyota that will finds its way to market in 2012.
you can expect a pretty powerful setup, perhaps mating the Japan car's current 2.0-liter flat 4 . And since US spec Imprezas are equipped with a 4 cylinder Boxer 2.5-liter , we may get a more powerful setup.expect the car to hit market in mid 2012 and for north American market will get the car in Fall 2012
2012 Subaru Impreza line up include hybrid

According to inside sources speaking with Road & Track website and Ikuo Mori, president of Subaru, declared that the company will introduce a new hybrid vehicle in 2012. The Subaru Impreza gas electric hybrid engine will be a first hybrid car for Subaru and will be based on one of the company's boxer engines.at 2009 Tokyo Motor Show Subaru display its Hybrid Tourer Concept ,the car which show some direction for Japanese automaker about introducing a hybrid engine in 2012. the hybrid setup works with a direct-injection 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine. The concept version uses lithium ion batteries and uses two electric motors (one for the front and one for the rear), to help deliver optimum all-wheel drive performance.
Here is a picture of the matrix:
