Default Air Conditioning weight removal.

Just an FYI thread...

I was searching on the board to find the weight of the A/C components under the hood of my 2.5 RS. To my surprise, I couldn't find any numbers.

So, I have some new info... 22lbs for all of the air conditioning components in the engine bay.

Don't ask me how I know

Hey, good point. I did evacuate it properly into a new tank. I'll have to get that tank weighed before/after

My AC hasn't worked since last summer when Mr.Condenser met Mr.Rock in NJ. My GF keeps bugging me to fix it, I just wanna rip it out, but she sayes she'll pay to fix it. I hate AC, but if anyone pulls theres out and wants to sell the condenser let me know, I'm in the market.

Yes, it included all of the above, as well as the belt, tensioner, misc nuts and bolts/brackets that were holding everything in place.

Geez...Well that sucks. I was hoping A/C removal would come out to more than 22lbs in savings.

(Not thinking of taking it out of the RS, but of another car.

20lbs = not worth it to me...

but rally is much different...

2 years ago i suffered from heat stroke and heat exhaustion
(i was really really sick )
when i lost my power steering during a rally and did 2 stages w/out it in the CA desert.....

never again.
AC all the way... screw the extra weight savings...

besides, i weigh 20lbs less than most of the other drivers

Don't forget the benefit of simply removing one more accessory and its associated parasitic drain on performance.

Exactly!

It's benefit is far more noticeable than a lightened pulley set.

I've noticed an increase in throttle response while heel-toeing. Probably not what a lightweight flywheel would get you, but there is a noticeable difference.

Yeah, I'll take mine out when I think that the 20 pounds took me from first place to second.

You do know they have A/C systems that use a big jugg, filled with water, sitting on the outside of your car right? These are only powered by airflow over the car.

I'm not posting to debate weather or not it is worth it. I don't care what you do, honestly. People who Auto-X spend a ton of money to lighten their cars by 20lbs... this is free...

I'm just posting because I couldn't find the info for myself, so I thought I would put it out there for the next guy that might be looking.

Um, you're not reading the posts and following the sub-conversation that's happening here:

Subei Gal said "Rally is different"
I said "yeah, my ac stays in"
You said "people spend lots of money to lighten their cars for autocross"

Given that it's clear I do rally, I can't imagine how you think I'm talking about your parking lot shenanigans.

You made it clear in the very first post that you weren't interested in the "is it a good idea debate", we understand where you're coming from, *and agree*.

Cheers,
Anders
