Air Conditioning weight removal.
Just an FYI thread...
I was searching on the board to find the weight of the A/C components under the hood of my 2.5 RS. To my surprise, I couldn't find any numbers. So, I have some new info... 22lbs for all of the air conditioning components in the engine bay. Don't ask me how I know Corey #89 STS |

My AC hasn't worked since last summer when Mr.Condenser met Mr.Rock in NJ. My GF keeps bugging me to fix it, I just wanna rip it out, but she sayes she'll pay to fix it. I hate AC, but if anyone pulls theres out and wants to sell the condenser let me know, I'm in the market.

20lbs = not worth it to me...
but rally is much different... 2 years ago i suffered from heat stroke and heat exhaustion (i was really really sick ) when i lost my power steering during a rally and did 2 stages w/out it in the CA desert..... never again. AC all the way... screw the extra weight savings... besides, i weigh 20lbs less than most of the other drivers Jamie |

It's benefit is far more noticeable than a lightened pulley set. I've noticed an increase in throttle response while heel-toeing. Probably not what a lightweight flywheel would get you, but there is a noticeable difference. Corey #89 STS |

You do know they have A/C systems that use a big jugg, filled with water, sitting on the outside of your car right? These are only powered by airflow over the car. |

I'm just posting because I couldn't find the info for myself, so I thought I would put it out there for the next guy that might be looking. Corey #89 STS |

Subei Gal said "Rally is different" I said "yeah, my ac stays in" You said "people spend lots of money to lighten their cars for autocross" Given that it's clear I do rally, I can't imagine how you think I'm talking about your parking lot shenanigans. You made it clear in the very first post that you weren't interested in the "is it a good idea debate", we understand where you're coming from, *and agree*. Cheers, Anders |
