Thumbs down Co-driver's name missing from WRC cars

A big thumbs down to the FIA for deleting the co-driver's name from each of the WRC cars at Rallye Monte Carlo. I realize their names are displayed elsewhere on the car, but I'll miss seeing it along with that of the driver on the rear window.

Can't be much of a rally driver w/out your pace notes, someone to comm with service, change tyres, keep your paperwork sorted...provide organic ballast. I think this is a 1/2 assed attempt to make "personalities" out of the WRC stars. I guess one F1 carnival isn't enough. Next, every other TV shot will be of Pernilla Solberg looking up at the monitors in the team trailer like Mrs. Hakkinen. How about Service Girls in thongs and wellies? Maybe get Dave Letterman or Shaq to walk around Parc Ferme for photo ops?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Check the Monte Carlo sticky, there was/is a good discussion on the subject.

Why are they trying to ruin the WRC?

Oh, yeah....not having the co-driver's name on the window will ruin the WRC. It's probably safe to presume (I trust) a bit of hyperbolic excess in this statement? Perspective, gentlemen, perspective.

There are rules changes that legitimately alter the sport, perhaps not for the better. Not having the co-driver's name on the car isn't among them, IMHO.

The WRC drivers are already personalities, such as it is. They aren't superstar prima donnas like the F1 drivers, but that's the nature of the WRC compared to F1, and nothing short of a sea change in the perception of the sport will alter this. But hundreds of thousands of people come out to watch rallying, drawn by the cars, and their favorite drivers. That says a lot, I think.

Well, I wouldnt say its being ruined, but the amount of political effort involved for such a stupid change is plain nuts. Something as trivial as the co-drivers name not appearing on the window makes me wonder about the bigger decision they make.
