Default Update from the Ferrari Meet / Race at Laguna Seca: Poor F40

Well just got off the phone with my pops and he was doing his thng around Laguna Seca today. Says the corkscrew is much bigger in person than on TV or on Gran Turismo. Anyway a guy ran his F40 into the wall at the start / finish line. This same car mind you just came out of the body shop with $200,000 worth of bodywork from a previous crash at Infineon Raceway at the last event. The owner wasn't driving the first time but was this time. Poor guy, but whatcha gonna do.

Sucks.

Matt L

BTW tittywappage will happen when my parents return, my mom was taking pictures of the F40 before they towed it away and covered it up away from preying eyes.

I'm sure the guy has more than enough money to take care of it. Sholdn't be a problem.

My boss was there over the weekend for vintage ferrari racing, and he showed me pics of GTO's and other uuber rare and valuable cars racing inches from each other. Some of these are cars worth 10-18 million each.

The restored vintage Ferrari's, don't know about $18 million but I'm sure some are rather expensive.

I don't recall, but my boss is a ferrari guru. He was showing me all of these pics and telling me the histort and stuff. Prehaps it wasn't 18 mil, but it was a whole bunch of $$$. The car he was refering to was like 1 our of 3 in the world or something

Ran it into the wall at the start-finish line? Now that's brain dead! Right before the crest of the hill and under the bridge? Maybe he lifted at the crest (easy to do, if you're not familiar with the track), But that is basically a straight.

I think so..my dad was vague on the phone, unless it was before that where there is a very shart left turn and maybe he slid off the track into the wall.

Ha... Anybody remember when Stirling Moss got a little enthusiastic with the Le Mans-winning Aston Martin a couple of years ago at Laguna Seca? Almost made me cry.

I've seen similar incidents at Watkins Glen and elsewhere time and time again and they're painful to watch. One comforting fact is that you may or may not be seeing what you think you are: so many vintage racing cars have been rebodied or are careful recreations (some unknown to their owners!) that another shunt is another opportunity for improvement However, one of the GTOs there this weekend (can't recall the specific chassis/owner) is largely original and would be the Ferrari I'd most want to have on a desert island so to speak.

Pay a visit to the Nostalgia Forum over at www.atlasf1.com. There's a thread on Ferrari 330 P4s (a machine that I'd have relations with if no one was watching) that's fascinating.
