Hey Guys, Did anyone find an answer on this? i have the same issue on my 06 FXT. swapped out both solonoids for new and checked for filters on all banjo bolts with nothing in there. Passenger side ranges from 6-8 and driver side from 24-25 |

![]() Good day
Now get time to troubleshoot an avcs issue I've been having. Solenoids advancing 6 degrees max. Duty is up to 94% tho. Cleaned the solenoids and same issue. Some forums saying could be the neutral position switch faulty that disables the avcs. If it was disabled would there still be a 94% duty? |

![]() Was the AVCS disassembled? Usually these issues after disassembly are from improper reassembly. The circles NEED to be concentric. I have used a D battery before to make sure that they are aligned while assembling.

![]() The aftermarket replaced solenoids were “lazy” according to the shop I ended up bringing my car to. They gave me some known good ones and swapped them in.

![]() Hoping some on can help, just done head gasket job all runs sweet feels good and smooth but throws up P0081 bank 2 cam and crank correlation.
Checked timing several times, had apart and back together several times sometimes takes up to a week for light/fault to reproduce. Checked cam advancement and at idle its 0-3 bank 1 and 22-25 bank 2 now what is the desired spec for it at idle I have a new pulley on way to put on bank 2 and already swapped both solenoids and removed filters in banjos no charge yet. Sorry I just joined and could only post reply rn and not start thread this topic seemed fitting hope thats okay. Thoughts is it possible to mix up intake cams (im thinking not without checking) Is it possible the sensor could be reading wrong as it does change from and up to 20-25. And when new pulley arrives I will be removing all of the avcs to clean out and make sure no blockages what is what im hoping/expecting. Any inside would be appreciated in to diagnosing this im tired of taking it apart and putting back together lol. |

![]() When mine did this it was damage to the oil port in the gear during installation. Low mile gears cleared it up

![]() Thanks for your reply im hoping it is the avcs timing gear as it makes sense but ive no way to test or be sure until new one is on. Will let you know soon as it arrives.

![]() So I went ahead and changed the timing gear fitted it all back up and im still getting it 18* ish advanced so its better but not happy yet.
So far it has new bank 2: Timing gear Solenoid I have checked and re timed more times than I care to add up. Im debating should I retard the bank 2 intake timing to see if it makes it better or worse (Just to see if anything changes) or swap out the cam sensor as thats the only thing left. When I changed the gear I removed valve cover and cams to inspect and all of the vvt oil ways in the cam bracket all looks great. |

![]() Anyone have a recent tuned single 257 avcs map? Wonder what the current timing theories are these days on the avcs

Cam carrier is clean and blew through cam oil ways and made sure oilways in cam carrier (where the Solenoid is fitted) is clear and clean all good. Im dead sure that something must be blocked on the oil return side from pulley to the head or in the head retaining oil pressure and keeping timing advanced. Does anyone have a cylinder head they could take pics of or look or diagrams for the oil return passages after the Solenoid where it relives the pressure to before I rip it all apart again ***128557;***128557; |

![]() For those that are intrested that may come across this issue after retarding the timing on bank 2 intake gear it brings it back down to 0 degrees now its 100% a tooth out but its fixed it im guessing maybe the heads have been milled several times before im kinda lost at this point

![]() How does the ecu calculate the correlation? When the cam sensor is stationary and the gear is hydralically motioned? Its like a turbo. Magical i suppose.

![]() I believe this is where I should be posting. As I have recently had installed a 07 08 09 10 11 12 JDM Subaru Forester XT EJ20X Turbo Engine Replacement of EJ255 in my 2004 Subaru Forester XT mt. I have a few mods headers, injectors, sti turbo, inlet, walbro. It runs but idles pretty low. Also around 5k rpm it refuses to climb. It will putter like a rev limiter. I’ve done some research and read about the EJ20X having dual avcs and the harness from my 2.5 liter ej are not in sync. Am I real deep
