yes. theres 2 ways i can do it... a lot of cars actually have to be done this way and i wanted to make the install easier by having the trans mated already. anytime you can do this its like 02930358209123 x's easier then putting the trans in then the motor following or vice versa.
1. i can do exactly as you said. bolt up the crossmember and in she goes. 2. pretty much the same but its hoist the engine up. bolt the transmission crossmembers, even out the engine while its being held by the hoise and then install the crossmember with all the wiggle room ill have. not sure which im going to do yet. with the crossmember on i wouldnt of been able to get it under the car because my jackstands are nearly maxed. unfortunately at my dads manufacturing plant i do not have a lift like i do at work so i work with what i have haha.

Yeah that Tsudo is junk but what else is there for our cars lol I had to pull the flanges to get it to bolt up..also I also painted it with high temp paint and then wrapped it. You won't see any rust now if you go this route. Though I use my stock fuel pump assemply and still works pretty good on 9 psi centrifugal boosted but more than that and I'll have trouble. On 550cc WRX injectors and walbro 255. Seeing as you installed a pump assembly with a reutrn its save to say you installed a fuel return line from the upgraded fuel rails...and went with either an STI FPR and or aftermarket.?? What rails did you go with and was routing a return line difficult as well as adapting the ECU to run fuel assemply. Or are you going Stand Alone...? builds coming along nice you will like the supercharger( I love mine Raptorsupercharger and 234hp @ 9 psi on 2.5i) and the intake manifolds love to flow...

I'm not to sure where im going to go with the header JUSSSSSST yet. I did do the high temp silver paint on it. Im probablly going to wrap it as i am running an oil cooler and im sure the lines will come stupid close. Not going to risk that.
Now i have done a few things...For the fueling side of my car i have swapped from the 01 air assisted manifold to a 99 manifold. This will make it easy to run ANY injector setup i want. So i have 550cci wrx injectors aswell. I also have a walbro 255 with an sti in tank pump assembly and a newer wrx tank with the proper baffling. Im running an Aeromotive Regulator aswell as -6AN lines. The setup will have a single inlet T'd off to both rails and a dual return into both sides of the regulator and a single out back to the factory return lines. The rails were made buy a guy on rs25 naked Zerodrift. Pretty good rail but i did have to mod the brackets to clear the blower. I have a megasquirt im going to run. I didnt wanna screw with a pos piggy back. That was my original plan that i scrapped. I managed to get a fully assembled megasquirt so i cannot complain. |

I have the same rails on my rst there pretty nice. I don't love the adjustable bracket that much as it's hard to get perfectly straight in the ports, but it's universal. You build is coming along nicely... Good call on not going piggyback, that's the whole reason for my now doing sti swap, I got sick on the oem ecu, learning around it, really looking forward to finish product in this thing

thanks... yeah i dont wanna deal with the piggy back crap.... it wouldnt pass emissions with it anyways but i couldnt afford a hydra or anything of the sort so the megasquirt was my only option.
yeah the rails are ok..... i needs to shim them with washers to get the alignment perfect but it is what it is... quality is not bad. thanks for the compliments. |

just a thought about the headers. Down the road, after you get it running and ironed all the kinks out, fabbing up some nice collectors and cutting out those stamped pieces of crap and welding in nice ones would probably make a noticeable difference. Not being EL, it might not be huge. just a thought. looks like you have the welding skills to make some nice merges. This looks like it will be a blast to play with when its all done!

thanks man.... im sure i could do it but in all honesty im not going to. this thing im sure will get the job done for long enough. its by far not the worst header i seen but again its far far from the best ive seen haha. and its china stainless. the idea here was to just get something cheap that worked. i had a el header but it wouldnt work with the wrx crossmember(didnt think about it when i bought it). so i bought this one from a local for really really cheap and it was in great condition. if it breaks i wont care as ill just fix it or build one myself out of schedule 10. my fab skills are slowly getting there. my boss stresses perfect fitment all the time. so i really shoot for the fitment as it will aid a good weld.
thanks for the faith in my welding goes a long way because im a really hard self critic and they are far from up to par in my books. |

time for a test fit..... not gunna lie im so surprised that this fit WITHOUT a single mod to anything. the pipig is going to be fun and I have to reconsinder a few things but ill make it work none the less. I have about one inch of clearance before anything hits anything.
Might be sticking the awic behind the bumper/fender wheel well are to make my pipe routing easier. the heat exchanger will be front mounted so the awic really wont be needed on top..... piping clearences are really close but one step at a time I have a lot to go before im at that point. |

Are you mounting your heat exchanger behind the radiator? Have you thought about pumps for the AWIC, full duty or throttle mapped?

no its in front of the radiator. its front of the core support too. its short enough to allow blow to still get to the radiator as well.....
im running a large mezeire pump full duty. |

That'll be a pretty sweet setup. That size exchanger should keep things nice and cool, any plans to log post AWIC temps? I guess my sense of perspective is just off on the interwebs or I blame early morning. I like seeing more guys going the AWIC SC route, that's my future plan as well.

thanks man...
im still debating logging iats... do i need to? no. would it be cool? yeah without a doubt. the heat exchanger was free from a customer with a g500. its an oem spec garret core. should be plenty for this application. its small and compact enough but can handle a good amount of power. personally i think awic is far more efficient with blowers then air to air. especially on roots blowers. |

Yea, it's totally a neat thing to track, but you can guestimate enough from boost/temp correlations to fake it and know you're good. I kind of want to do it as a way of monitoring the system in case of pump failure. More useful numbers than just monitoring the water temp. It'll do wonders on any boosted setup, but the hEaton will definitely benefit from the added cooling capacity from thermal mass loading than an air to air could ever provide.

i agree without a double. its definately something on my lift of things to do... imgoing to try running the throttle body in the stock location since i have a bpv integrated and the cars map based. so it shouldnt be an issue. it will make the blower louder but cant say i care

Modified my PS line... This is version 1. Decided it wasen't going to work so I redid it. V1 V2 is more complicated. Decided hose clamps wouldn't work so I added a metal spacer and welded a -6an fitting onto it as I feel it will hold the pressure so much better. Theres a triple pass weld on here as well. |

Stumbled across your build and gotta say you are doing amazing work. Small world Im from southeast Wisconsin and I came from a 2006 cobalt ss supercharged. Was a fun car but i needed an upgrade for winter and family starting. Cant wait for you to finish, as im sure you are too, so I could maybe see it out somewhere. Good work sir keep it going. Ps im jealous of your job, im a chrysler tech and would love to be doing custom work.

Thanks man. That's why I left the insurance body shop industry. It gets old. The money here isn't as good as a dealership tech until you have been around for awhile I've found. I'm just pushing to get better and better
I dd the cobalt. Its great. Definitely not family practical though. We do a lot of tuning for them and the solstice/sky and srt4 market. |
