Default New to Imprezas, need some help (choosing)

Alright, Im just going to give a little info about myself first. Im 17, and don't even have my liscense (dont give me ****) and am about a month from getting it. I am looking into getting my first car. I would love a 2.5RS, but am afraid of the insurance rates (and i dont know if i have that much money). Anyway, I would like to know if I could get the differences in the Impreza Ls. From 1993-2001. If anyone has a link or could tell me that would be great. I also would like opinions on what would be a better first car, an L or a 2.5RS and what year. I am looking to spend under 10k at the absolute most, but more likely than not under 3-5k. I am hoping to be joining the ranks of Subaru owners.
Thank you,
Kikyo

Thank you!

I am not quite sure if i am understanding this right, are all 93-01s GC8s? As in the same general parts. Are the parts swappable?

Thanks again,
Kikyo

I have a MY99 L Sport Wagon 5spd. All the suspension parts can be fitted onto mine. The rear struts braces may be different. Front bumper covers can be fitted and hood w/ scoops.

Basically my Wagon can be modded the same way a RS can be modded. I just dont' have the motor that the RS has, but could be fitted with on. I can do anything the RS can do and some things, better like more space to put things in.

This is my first car and it's quite fun. 2 person in a RS, and only me in my car, rolling acceleration contest between me and a RS is pretty much even, except I get a nose ahead because of the 3.900 final drive.

Outback sport and L Wagon = GF4
L sedan = GC4
L Coupe = GM4
RS Sedan = GC6
RS Coupe = GM6
WRX STi Ver. 6 = GC8
WRX STi Ver. 6 Type R = GM8 (but they still lable as a GC chassis I dont' know why)

get the L! If you plan on doing alot of modding or swapping then get the L. I got my 01 RS 6 months ago and i just sold it and am picking up a 93 L and doing a swap for less that what i paid for my RS. Otherwise the RS is a great car to drive stock.

Is there any major chassis/suspension changes from the 93 to the 01? Or are they all the same chassis/suspension?

edit: Also, how many miles is a lot for a 93 Impreza L? How long should I expect the engine to last (if taken care of)?

my first car was a 1997 subaru legacy gt...i bought it with 106k miles and it was very well maintained...it now has $131k miles and it still runs fine(i still have it, now my dad just uses it go back and forth to the park and ride), no major problems so far(knock on wood), now i have a 02rs ( what is that considered in terms of the chassis? 93-01 is gc8 i think....whats an 02rs? ) i hoping to get just as many miles as my legacy or more.
