OMGHi2U UIUC Champaign/Urbana Subie Owners thread.

Hey guys.

I didn't see a local thread for UIUC/Champaign/Urbana area owners, so I figured I'd start one.

I'm new to Subaru but not new to being a car enthusiast and very amateur DIY mechanic.

If anyone wants to meet up, or ever needs a hand turning a wrench, hit me up.

I was a student, graduated back in 03, now I live and work in C/U.

I'm a software engineer and I work in the Research Park.

How about you, or anyone else?

I was kinda expecting to see more members in here, but maybe it will take a while for people to find this thread, not everyone on a board like this, visits the regional sub-forums.

EDIT: HAAHAHAaaa I'm just going to leave this here:

Old guy. I work in IT for local school district. Recovering from a total knee arthroplasty.

Spark Silver '08 2.5i bought at local dealership. Daily driver. Magnaflow CBE, 17 in. Sport Edition D5s w/Hankooks for summer. Change SE D5s to 16 in. with General Altimax Arctics for winter (really needed in my neighborhood - no plow by city).

Nice to meet you Don!

I used to work for Warden Martin Subaru/Saturn a LONG time ago, and I generally regard them as a decent shop, I'd take my car in for warranty work, but past that, I either wrench it myself, or I have PeterB work on my cars.

Damn....best of luck for your recovery after the knee surgery, I've seen friends go through that and I know its a long process.

If we can get enough members in here, I'd love to organize a little BBQ meet and greet or something.

Just found this thread, I'm from CU. I'm into autox, there is one this Sunday and Monday at Parkland college. If you come out either or both days you should get to meet a few local subie guys and a bunch of good car guys in general. Check out the local forum too, cicenet.net. I'll be driving the blue wrx wagon, come by and say hi if you'd like.

Thanks, Parabellum9x19. I take it you are a shooter as well from the signature.

I have owned two WRXs in the past. A bugeye 2003 wagon in OBP and a 2005 WRX Premium sedan in WRB. I gave the wagon up for the sedan. Then the wanna be boss says "the IT office is moving from FIC to Sci-Lit center" at the same time construction was ongoing at M2. There are only 5 parking spaces at that building so it was going to be park the WRX on the street, NOT! I traded it with Kelly for a lease 2.5i. The lease ran out, and I am buying the 2.5i wagon. They had it left over from the 2008 stock and a decent price. Put on a WRX rsb, a Kartboy kit, and the other stuff I have already mentioned.

Hey cliff!

Welcome to the thread. I'm trying to get about a dozen of us in here who would want to meet up for an evening, maybe get some food and a beer or something.

I think I have seen your car around before too, the yellow fogs are pretty distinctive.

Thanks Dan, nice pics of your car too man. There is another autox in Rantoul on the 16th and 17th if you want another ride.

I would be up for a meet as long as I don't have to be at work.

Hey man, small world, I used to work for Worden Martin Nissan/Subaru/Saturn WAY back in the day...when it was owned by Continental Group, then Worden Martin bought it out. I kept working there for a few years until school got too demanding.

What do you do there? I'm trying to find an in with the Subaru Warranty Advisor to hopefully avoid getting totally dicked over on my warranty (should any claims arise).

Hey fellas,

If you guys figure out a time/day to go out to Old Orchard (or whatever you're planning) I might come out and take a gander. ('05 obp sti)

Questions/Comments:

Nimbus09- Do you happen to live on university avenue? I see a white 08+ parked in it's driveway on my drive home from work. Always clean so if that's you, A+...

Rez1138- Seen you around at parkland AutoX (haven't done it myself yet), as always.. nice ride. I talked to the guy that owned the '06 AW STi doing AutoX and he's cool.

Cliff- I think i've seen you around on Springfield Ave. There is a grey subie almost identical to yours that I see often in South West Champaign also.

Random- see a blue Rex in SW Champaign quite a bit as well. My guess is he is in his 30's.

Have a good one.

I feel you on that, pro-grade tools are expensive as hell, and its not easy to buy them on what you make as an apprentice.

Hang in there, I'm sure it gets easier over time.

Blue hawkeye with red calipers? Totally stock interior?

If that is the car you are thinking of, he parks in the same parking lot as I do for work, but he works for a different company (like 5 companies share my building).

I'm easy to spot: Look for a silver 08 WRX with blue lamin-x on the headlights, flaps, tow hitch, I'm sure I'm the only one like this in the entire area.

Nope, not me. I live at Capstone on Lincoln. I do always try to keep my car clean though

Recently, I've noticed a doppleganger around. A guy with a '10 wrx, white. Went to Worden Martin and they told me it is a Prof that traded in the black 08 STI they have now (which I took out for a spin) and got the rex for some reason. He has the premo package though (with sunroof), I don't.

Are you the OBP STI with the gold bbs wheels? If i remember right, you are dropped and have an exhaust on. I occasionally saw it on 5th and Healey.

BTW, there is a blue 08+ sti that i see around with goldies. The guy is pretty cool and waves all the time to me (I wave back, of course). He definitely looks older and sports a rockin' beard!
