Default catalytic converter p0420 et al

hi everyone-
some background:
I own a 2010 outback sport 2.5i ej255 na with 130k miles on it- I purchased the car in 2016. The private seller actually cut the muffler off the intermediate pipe and welded on a new one (which i did not notice at the time). so i decided to replace my pipe + muffler due to it just falling apart at this point so i can have the stock stuff again and be able to do as i please normally.

but i guess my noob question is-
does my subaru have 2 cats ?

i see a front cat and a resonator pipe, but i was trying to find out more clarification as to what is stock and what is not. (since in my case it did not come stock.)

another thing is- i got the p0420 code now and i wanted to know- is it due to an exhaust leak at the tail pipe end throwing a code? or if my cat is done for??

maybe im in for a subaru spending spree. any advice is appreciated.

update: after looking under the car, the midpipe looks like stock so did confirm that the end of the intermediate pipe and its flange is gone- its one straight pipe to a muffler that now is rusting out.

Yeah, they are dual-cat...

The N/A subies love to throw a P0420 if you mess with the stock exhaust.

Default maybe bosal / BRE

ok thanks - is it crazy to buy the stock mid pipe and go 3rd party bosal for the muffler?

i have to see how much "not stock" the exhaust of the car really is ( check the cat back if its oem )/ 02 sensor readings etc.

i saw some of the bosal kits but i haven't found any straight SS, its mixed aluminum.

not looking for a screamer here I'm perfectly fine with stock or as close to stock. it just needs to last.

Default Exhaust leak or loose gas cap?

It could potentially be a small exhaust leak or loose gas cap.

I have the same issue on my STI and I'm still figuring it out lol.
