Default TPMS issues after new wheel set and sensors

Happy New Year folks.

I've read countless of threads and articles relating to our TPMS and people who have (or had) new sensors registering to the vehicle.

My local wheel/tire shop that I've been using for years can't seem to get my Autel MX-Sensors to sync with my 20 STi. Initially, the shop cloned my MX sensors with the OEM sensors (the MX sensors are programmable as well as dual band) and after driving home the short 8 miles my TPMS light blinked...then steady on. The shop thought it may have been caused by me having the OEM wheel/tire set in the car driving home from initial installation. So back I went with the OEM set at home and they reregistered the sensors back with the car (even though the sensors are clones of the OEM). Same issue...light flashing and steady on half-way to my home.

Went back and this time they programed the new sensors with new RFID tags and removed the existing sensors from the ECU...programed the new IDs into the ECU. Same thing. Half way home the blinking/stead TPMS light.

As I mentioned before I've searched and read a lot of threads and articles with people having similar issues when trying to clone OEM sensors. The MX sensors are working as they are reporting correct PSI to the TPMS tool the shop is using.

I've went to my local dealer and dropped $175 for OEM sensors and was going to head back to the tire shop. I'm disappointed because now they will have to break the seal...rebalance my wheels on the road-force machine (takes like 2 hours for 4 wheels) and likely have to hit my dealer on the way home to get the OEM sensors programmed into the car. I'm going to buy the Quickset tool that many people have mentioned and are successfully using. I have the new OEM sensor IDs as well as the original wheel set IDs. I plan on using the OEM wheel/tire package just for track days and my Konig/AS3 setup for DD.

Curious if anyone has been able to get the Autel MX sensors to either successfully clone the OEM or simply have them register to the car with new IDs.

Here is a link to the Autel Sensor I currently have: http://www.maxitpms.com/tpmscms/product2/794.jhtml

My new setup...(with the nice TPMS light in my face )

Konig Rennform 18x9 +40
AS3+ 245/40/18

The tire and wheel is much lighter than the stock 19" wheel and tire combo.

TPMS with Autel MX sensor fixed!

After posting this I did more research and figured I'd try giving Autel tech support a call. Yes...may have been better if I did this earlier because they knew the issue.

The Autel tool used to program/clone/update TPMS sensors and the ECU is the TS 508 tool (it's black and red handheld device the that tire shop owns). When I told tech support we can't get their MX sensors to work on my 2020 STi he immediately stated the new update for the TS 508 tool with my model will be available in a few weeks. Because... the 2020 STi uses 315MHz. The 2019 WRX uses 433MHz frequency. Since the 2020 model year was not yet available in the TS 508 tool, my installer was trying to leverage the 2019 entry in the tool. Autel tech told me to use the 2014-2018 WRX model in the TS 508 tool on my TPMS sensors and it will work. He was right! We selected that model/year in the 508 tool, uploaded the sensors into the ECU...and TPMS immediately went out. Drove the car for over 25 miles and no TPMS light on the dash (previously, I didn't even get 3 miles from the tire shop before lights and chimes kicked in).

I know more about TPMS than I really wanted too. Happy to report Autel MX TPMS sensors do indeed work in 2020 STi.

Thanks for the above information. I've known about the two frequencies but would not have expected a single model car to switch between them from one year to the next either.

Never mind that I feel that having to pay another $30/corner for a second set of wheels should be at the car owner's option for sedans, sports cars, and sporty coupes.

Good choice on tires.

I have a set of 4 BRZ wheels with the 2013 Limited (which is 315 mhz); I put them on to my 2008 Legacy GT (which is also 315 mhz); but it kicked the TPMS.

Will this Autel MX fix the problem?

If so, I should put the Autel sensor in the BRZ wheels and have it clone the OE wheels from the Legacy GT?

I usually do winter / summer set up for the wheels.
