nice, a wideband!

it's a bugeye so you can run carberry. highly recommended. best option for tuning imho. folks out there closing in on 9s with it. SD can be a bitch to tune to that last little bit of drivability but it's worth it.

^^So let me pick your brain for a minute:

This is my first turbo car, and Ive never ventured into the realm of tuning. I was going to get into that once the bolt on stuff was done but since its now brought up

Im not sure even where to start
This is what I was thinking:
Bring it to Buffalo to Innovative Tuning (bout a 1Hr drive)

but what do I need to start off with / get it driving "safely". Software, hardware, base maps?
Just unclear on what do go with and where to start, lots of info and products out there but not sure what right for me

i would also perform or contract out a leakdown test to get an idea of the overall health of the engine.

So worked all day today:

Wrapped up all the parts:
Used DEI's titanium wrap for the first time and Im never going back to fiberglass wrap ever. No itchy hands!!

First up the header went in. Only hiccup was I had to notch out a small 2" section of the inner lip of the subframe to clear where the pipes meet the collector just before the uppipe

Then the uppipe went in. The only thing I wasnt expecting was there wasnt enough room to slip it down to the header. I had to take the nut off the passengers side engine mount and jack the motor up a tad. Then everything was butter.

Then the turbo went in. THis was the biggest PITA, trying to get the oil drain to slip on while lining up the studs and trying to slip the inlet onto the turbo. But with some perseverance I got it done:

Also got a hose clamp on the bottom of the oil drain, boy was that tricky:

Then the downpipe went in:

Then the mailman showed up with perfect timing and delivered two new 02 sensors. I really wanted to get new ones because the old ones were seized in and I had to bash the **** out of em, and they tend not to like mechanical shock:

Then the wideband was installed. And had a little scare: I turned the key and all the electronics were flickery, then dim, and the fuel pump noise seemed real strained and weird. Turns out the battery was almost dead. So I grabbed the one from the trunk relocation from the RS and squeezed it in temporarily. And then everything seemed to be hunky dory.

Just gotta clean up the wiring and put the interior back together and some little things here and there relating to these parts and she will be one step closer to running.
Also going to go grab a jump pack just in case there is a parasitic draw issue going on :/

well, no matter what, you should get yourself a tactrix cable. it, along with a laptop, is your tool kit for monitoring the engine systems. even if you never "tune" anything yourself, having the ability to collect logs is absolutely critical for maintenance and troubleshooting imho.

it would also allow you to say install larger injectors and make a single change to your map to account for injector scaling, getting the car driveable so that you could get to a dyno for additional tweaks.

you seem like a smart guy. tuning is not rocket science, but it IS science. you make incremental changes to one parameter at a time and you track the results through datalogging. it can be frustrating at times, and incredibly rewarding at others. but if you have the right tools and some patience, the end result is a car that will run better than any off the shelf tune, and most likely have better part throttle manners than one that is strictly dyno tuned.

Cleaned up the rest of the wiring under the dash and put the interior back together.

Ive been considering maybe upgrading the injectors and fuel pump.
Want to go with a walboro 250 kit

And as far as the injectors not sure if I want 565cc or 650cc

First off, nice purchase on the quality exhaust parts!! I love the grimmspeed downpipe, it is truly a piece of art. My only comment I have and it is too late, but the wrap job you did while it is beautiful and well done. The only thing is you should have wrapped it the opposite direction, that way the wrap creates a "shingle" like on a roof. So that when water gets on it, it flows over and not inside the wrap to the metal. Just my OCD kicking in on that part, otherwise very nice!

For injectors I would go with ID1000's. Plenty of extra room in the future to expand power wise if you were to go bigger turbo. The walboro fuel pump will be needed also.

Great build so far!!

Thanks man, and yea the wrap direction didnt even cross my mind but you make a legit. point. lol

Im not sure Id1000s are right for this build. Honestly I think some 650s are more than Ill need for what im looking for out of the build

No problem just something i read a long time ago. I actually wrapped mine like yours but caught it before i installed and wrapped it the other way.

As long as you go with injector dynamics your good to go! I had idle issues with my previous DW750's.

So I was doing a bunch of research regarding boost control systems and i think I answered the confusion of the setup that was on the car when I bought it.

The turbo had a MBC which completely bypassed the OEM EBCS
But then when I was looking around the engine bay I noticed that there was a turboXS MBC T'd into the OEM EBCS vac lines, but was unhooked from the turbo

Doing research I found out that the OEM EBCS will cut the boost if there are issues with the waste-gate. So it seems that when the waste-gate started acting up, the owner bypassed the OEM EBCS to keep on boostin'.

Anywho, I think Im going to either go with the Cobb EBCS or the Grimmspeed EBCS. I really love Grimmspeed products, but I think it makes sense to go with the Cobb since Ill be using a Cobb AP for either a protune or an E-Tune

I hear ya, its also hard to pass up on their rebate for sending in your oem injectors. Just fyi cobb backs injector dynamics to my knowledge. I have the cobb spec ID1000's and am very happy.

If your trying to be cost conscious then I cant blame you on choosing DW, but sometimes it pays to pay more up front rather then down the road when you have a bad injector causing a misfire (ik a local who had that issue)

[b]Thanks^

Got the CBE yesterday and installed it today:

Also bought an air diverter plate for the scoop from KsTech

Then I buttoned up a few things, topped off the coolant
.....and started er up

1.)Sounds amazing
2.)Needs a tune! lol. I only took her out and around the block, not more than 20mph. The power-band feels jumpy and the AFRs are dancing all over the place

Installed the EBCS
Also shot some wrinkle black on the brackets while I was in there
Probably going to tuck away that harness later down the road +trim up the bracket but for now it is what it is

Also, anyone know where I ca get one of those twist clips for the cover that goes here. I only have one and it annoys me

Ok so I got bored last night and tucked away some of the wiring. I think Im going to just eliminate the clutter of the cover entirely:

Also while I was peering around the engine bay I saw this:

Pinks!
