Default GD red hvac lighting *need info*

So I've been searching for awhile off and on and was hoping somebody could give me some clarification. I have a 2005 STi and want to convert my hvac lighting to red. My buddy has a 2007 sti limited and his are red. He says it's factory. He also says jdm models (s204) came red. I would like to replace with oem controls and not custom. So my questions are as follows...

1. Did all 2007 STi limited come with red hvac controls? If so why do people go the custom route instead of ordering the oem parts from Subaru?

2. Did all jdm s204 or any other chassis come with red? If not which ones did?

I appreciate any info. Thanks!

Honestly the best route to take to make your HVAC lights red, is to either just replace your factory bulbs with LEDs, or remove the green condom (yes it's really called that) from the bulb, and then use red paint on tint (which I did). Both work perfectly fine.

I have a 2007 Sti Limited, and my HVAC controls are lit green, just like all 2007s. I am the original owner, so I know this has never been modified.

I do believe that your buddy is correct regarding the JDM models having red lit HVAC , though.

2007 are soldered LEDs with the plastic tinted green. There is a tutorial somewhere on here on how to wire in a bunch of red LEDs to overpower the green tint.

Thanks for the info guys. I've seen the tutorials and even have a shop that will solder red leds and make it look good. I just wanted to go full oem if possible. Problem is the knowledge surrounding which cars came red from the factory is very dated and scarce online. I do believe the cars that game with a green Backlit cluster in Japan had the red as well
