Well, I drove a 2009 BMW 335d(iesel) today. 425 lb/ft and 40 mpg highway. It was sub $30k, so at some point my nominal desire for a hot hatch and Subaru will be outweighed by planet-pulling torque or the ungainly but fun abarth.

Sort of. The Golf R is a very nice place to spend some time. Wonderful seats, great suspension, goes where you point it, nice mid torque, but no real torque sterr of note. However, because it is so refined, it is really just a smaller, slower, more efficient version of my current car. Not quite what I was shootign for, but still a contender.

The focus is just a no. I really want to like it, but the inside screams 17 year old and playstation, the torque steer is terrifying when getting on to the expressway, and it is an STUPID harsh ride. Off the list.

Thats what I keep telling Jane and the various car salesmen; both of whom are underwhelmed.

Drove the non turbo version when it firt came out, and it was terrible. bad ride, no speed, loud as a hornets nest with a terrible engine note and no exhaust note. Nothing I have heard made me interested in the turbo version.

The Abarth and VW are still on the list. Still trying to find a porsche that is worth test driving. And I may try to find a manual version of my current car, or the G37, thinking that it would be slightly more fun, although economy would still be woefull.

Yes, a very strange combination of cross shopping.

I punched the gas, and the ford literally leapt to the right, onto the shoulder. The sales woman squeeked and white knuckled the OSH.

The datsun just spins tires in a straight line, doesnt veer into oncoming traffic or off of embankments. And Ella wont be a passenger in the datsun for quite some time.
