You should always have time for the correct gas. Gas quality can mean the difference in a good clean WOT pull and your motor exploding. That's a bit extreme, but I've seen it happen.

just get 93 oct only from any gas station that

1) wasnt build in 197X
2) doesnt have a bunch of people pumping at the same time

if you use 91 or lower, your ecu may be more likely to pull timing to compensate for the lower detonation threshold depending on your driving conditions, leading to less power

I still wouldn't put their premium fuel in anything I've had tuned.
Yeah, market efficiencies be damned right? Buying at the lowest cost and selling it at a loss couldn't possibly explain why their gas is consistently cheaper than the competition without it being just a quality issue.

You've got no proof that it's bad gas. If you don't want to run it that's entirely your call. But knocking it based on no evidence whatsoever isn't fair to them.

I'm fairly certain that the WRX was designed to run on 91 since it's the highest rated fuel in states like California. But yeah, what he said.

Just like you have no proof that the gas is consistently reliable or of similar quality as the last time you filled up? Do some data logs and get back to me.

The Leggy already has a VF52 on it. It's quite deceptive. The next thing for that car though is spring/strut combo and some sway bars and end links. Even when I was running the coils it cornered like a boat.

You've made the assertion that the gas was suspect, you prove it.

Here's evidence on why it's cheaper, and it has nothing to do with quality.

How does the shopping warehouse do it? It says its approach simply matches its overall business model: Get rid of the frills, sell for cheap--and make up for thin margins with high volume. Gas retailers, though, grouse that Costco uses gas as a loss leader to get people into the store. Even though Costco has just 0.16% of the 170,000 places you can fill up your car in the United States, its model is roiling the industry.

http://www.costco.com/gasoline-q-and-a.html

Q: How does Costco assure their gasoline is high quality?
A: Since gasoline formulations are specified by government standards, base gasoline is a fungible commodity with little difference between brands.

There are two aspects of fuel quality that depend on the gasoline brand and the individual retailer: detergent additives and station maintenance.

Detergent additives
Since 1995, Federal regulations mandate that all gasoline contain an EPA-approved detergent additive. These additives are designed to minimize engine deposits that can affect vehicle performance and emissions. The various proprietary detergent additive formulations are the main difference between brands of gasoline. All Costco gasoline, both regular and premium unleaded, contains detergent additives.

Station Maintenance
Good station operation and maintenance assures the fuel is filtered, and that no contaminants, such as sediment and water, find their way into our members' vehicles. Costco gas stations are well-maintained by our capable attendants so that only clean gasoline goes into your car.
Costco uses fuel filters to catch any particles or debris larger than 10 microns in diameter. For comparison, the average human hair is seventy microns thick.
Our attendants check the nozzle flow rate frequently to assure that our filters are fresh. When the flow rate falls below 8 gallons per minute, we change the filter.
Costco uses ethanol-compatible filters designed to catch sediment, water, or phase-separated ethanol and water mixtures.
Costco's electronic sensors continuously monitor our underground storage tanks for water.
We physically sample our tanks at least weekly to confirm there is no contamination by both visual inspection and chemical detection.

Costco sells discounted gas on the expectation that it will lead to more visits and higher revenue in its stores. The company beat expectations last week for its second-quarter earnings, saying profit rose 13% while same-store sales increased. Shoppers spent 2.4% more per visit in the quarter, and visit frequency rose 5.2%.

Nice dodge. Got those logs yet?

Evidence says it isn't bad gas. You can either prove it to me that it is and I'll stop using it, or you can admit it's just a 'feeling' you have based on price.

First off, I'm not even a Costco member. Secondly, it wasn't a dodge. What company is going to put "Our product sucks but you should buy it because it's cheaper than the competition." on their FAQ page? Lastly, I'm not risking blowing up my wifes car just for sake of winning an argument on the interwebs. I don't care. I'm not getting Costco gas. You're the one that is adament that their gas isn't crap. You have no evidence that's it's the same quality as Shell, Exxon, BP or any of the major distributors other than you've used it and your car hasn't exploded yet.

It is. Like I said, I'm pretty sure Subaru's base tune is for 91 since some states carry 91 as "premium." That is also the concensus on this forum as well as some others.

I am having issues starting the wrx...it hiccups?
Hmm kinda hard to explain but it's definitely not the same as when I got it a year ago. Reeves could have something to do with it since its been in the shop for thanksgiving and Christmas lol

I think I will try out shell and get my 3% cash back from amex and then .03 off per gallon card for about a month or two and see if I feel a difference and log it myself.

Depends on where you go. I believe the WaWa on the corner of 301 and Bloomingdale carries 87, 89 and 92.

You mean it kinda bogs down before it starts all the way? That usually points to a dying fuel pump.

Is 93 good for a wrx vs 91 or does it not matter since its a minimal difference
